I popped mine off for the first time the other day to put in my new speakers,  and I didn't have any problems with the screws, but did have a lot of a$$ puckering goin' on due to not being able to slide the outer fairing off or then on because the spot lamps were in the way.  Should I be rotating those out of the way, or am I missing something equally obvious in the equation? It'll come off without moving them, at least mine did. I had put towels over the spots to prevent damage to the fairing...2lane suggested using socks instead. It works great [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
By the way, what speakers did you go with?

All i will say is that it is 10 times easier now that I put studs in the 2 lower screw inserts of the fairing and the nyloc nuts onto the studs when they poke through betreen the forks.  That right one is still a little tricky due to the brake line.

Yes, as you bring it forward you'll need to reach down inside and release the harness connector on the back of the headlight.

I have a question.

What if screws # 6 and # 7 were not installed? EVER?

Coming back from Gatlinburg on the 03 the radio (speaker I thought) started making weird sounds.

I had copied the drawing on the fairing fastener location and (per WFP) wasn't looking forward to removing the fairing.

All went well until I got to screw 6 and 7. There was no screw 6 and 7.

I had the amp and special speakers installed when I bought the bike. That was 20K miles ago.
I'm betting they never put those two screws back in. Yes I said 20K miles ago.

So how important are they anyway?

The Harley shop has to send out the radio to have it repaired and you can be assured
#6 and # 7 will be there when they are finished.

The lower screws are the bottom mounts Chip.  Nothing more nor less.  They aren't holding anything "up."  They'll help stop some oscillation that might occur from wind coming up the skirt and will stop some vibration.  Look at this way, neither of those could have been too bad if you didn't notice it in 20k miles.  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

All that begs the next question though, what "amp and special speakers" you got?

Sorry Twolane!

Didn't highlight which bike.

It was the 03 Electra Glide, you know, the silver and back one to match Nancy's  Lowrider!

Harley part # 77192-02A
80 watt Neodymium speakers (whatever the hell that is) and a 70 watt amp

Great system,,, until it quits

Your right but WFP had me paronoid about losing them when I took off the fairing.
Twas to late, service tech never installed them anyway.

I know that this is not the garage door thread so I'll posted on both threads in case someone runs into the same problems.  Here it goes.  The problem I was having with the garage door opener was, that one of the pins in the in the 4 pin conector was pushed all the way in.  I should off taken a pic. with the pin pushed in but by the time I thought about taking the pic. I had allready pulled the pin out and I was about to push it in just for the pic.  But in the following pic. just pretend the pin that is being pointed with the pencil is pushed and you'll get the pic.  So like I said, I pulled the pin out enough (with some neddle nose pliers)  so that it was the same lenght as the other 3 pins, plugged it back up, toggle the high beams (the little red led light on the module came on)
and presto it was progamed and it works great.  her are some pics.  Let's Roll
