Does anyone know about BAKER TRANSMISSIONS? Has anyone had any trouble with them?

I have one of the Bakers and one HD. The Baker DD6 is not an overdrive tranmission. I went with the HD 6 speed in my SEEG because of the overdrive and most of my driving is on the highway also it is made by Jim's. I love my Baker but I have it in a Dyna with a built motor and the trannie works very well for me in that application. I like them both I run Redline shock proof oil in both of them and they are smooth shifting. I think you will see a better price on the HD unit.

Actually, the Baker DD6 uses a 1:1 top gear ratio for efficiency (1:1 is always more mechanically efficient than a true overdrive), and they get the overdrive effect by changing the primary drive ratio.  In other words, the DD6 includes a new primary sprocket and chain, as well as the transmission.  The H-D unit uses the stock ratio's for 1st thru 5th, and adds a 0.89:1 gear set for 6th gear.  I believe Baker still offers the original version of their trans with the overdrive 6th gear also, which would be less expensive than the DD6.

I've heard nothing but good comments from folks I know with the original Baker trans, haven't heard anything so far on the DD6.

Anyone know how fast you are going in 6th gear and 3k rpm's in a twin cam  using the DD6?

Assuming you have the 32 tooth trans sprocket, the 70 tooth rear wheel sprocket and the stock rear tire, the speed at 3000 rpm would be 81.7 mph.  The DD6 changes the crank sprocket from a 25 to a 28 tooth, so the primary ratio changes from the stock 1.44:1 to 1.28:1.   In 6th gear the overall final drive ratio would be 2.8:1 (stock is 3.15:1).  By the way, the overall final drive ratio works out to be the same with this setup as with the true overdrive trans with the 0.89:1 top gear.  Just a different way of getting to the same place.  With a Dunlop MU85B16 rear tire you can use the following formula to calculate speed vs rpm in 6th gear: (RPM / Overall Final Drive Ratio) x .0765 = MPH  (with stock rear tire)
