E-ZPASS Installations
« on: September 01, 2005, 08:44:25 AM »

Some of us have to live with toll booths. A pain in the neck. So now I have this lttle blue box I need to affix to the bike. Anyone have E-zpass or similar install on their bike? Looking for ideas on where to mount.

I don't have I-Pass/EZPass/etc., so here comes a dumb question:  Does the transponder have to be out in plain sight, or could you perhaps mount it inside the fairing like the garage door opener?

It has to be verticle in the direction of the arrows.  i have put it in the Zippered Arm Pocket of my CVO Jacket and had it work 3 out of 4 times on a recent trip.  It should read through a fiberglass fairing (O'fender does this I believe).  It is important that it face the right direction and that it not be upside down.

I looked up the E-Z Pass and the I-Pass websites, and both mention a special transponder that can be mounted outside the car.  They are for those cars with windshields that have metallic films embedded in them (antennas or defrosting systems) that would screw up the data transmission.  Neither site has any info at all on mounting to a motorcycle.

The E-Z Tag transponders we have here in Texas will work in your saddlebag. You have to ask for the one for a motorcycle and are about 5x5x3/4. Have not had a problem yet, or you can just split the lanes and the sensors can not pick you up, a Cop in our HOG group told us that. Go figure! [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I have mine velcro'd under my fairing.  No problem since 2001 with it. Also have my Mobil Speedpass under the fairing for my gas. So all I do is pull up to the pump and fill her up with out getting off the bike.

Jerry, the next time I take my fairing off I'll post picture's for you. I really did't think this was one of those cases were the picture's were needed. But if you can't picture it in your mind, I'll take the pictures for u. John

There velcro'd to the under side of the fairing above the radio

Followed a guy on a Honda thru the toll today as he was taking his pass out of his pocket and waving it towards the toll camera. I 've seen guys do this all the time. Y don't they just get another pass for there bike and leave the other one in there car. There free.

I followed your lead and mounted it inside the fairing.
