2018 CVO Street Glide lid speakers
« on: May 02, 2018, 10:05:08 AM »

I bought my 2018 CVO Street Glide in December 2017.  It is my first Harley so I am unfamiliar with the issues of the older models.

I blew my left lid speaker again.  This is the third time the lid speakers have needed to be replaced.  Both side have been replaced under warranty already and now the left is bad again.  The remaining forward speakers all sound great still.  No issues with those.

Is this a known issue with lid speakers?  Anyone else having the same problems?

Thanks

Unfortunately you are not the first to blow the these speakers, and some as you more than once.

Mine blew on my 16. Replaced under warranty also.  But three times sounds like a bigger issue.  Sorry to hear that however!

My 2016 has blown them 3 times! The last time they replaced the rear amp and I thought that fixed it, but I think they are messed up again now. I loved the sound system when it was new, but now it drives me crazy. It also clips the volume down all the time.

Sor far they have replaced 4 left speakers, 3 right and the left side amp on my 2018 CVO Street Glide. They replaced 3 left and 2 right on my 2017 CVO Street Glide. I feel your pain.

It is unfortunately neither the speakers, lids, or amps. I've had all the speakers on my 15 changed under warranty, rear amp, and large plug on saddlebag repined. it is the horrible EQ tune in the boom system. although I'm still not saying any of the audio components are of the best quality either......but they're not the worst.

Get rid of the Harley crap and you won't be blowing up those junk speakers any more. I don't have any problems. And I play my audio pretty loud too. Stuart.  :nixweiss:

I figured there has to be something better out there that is plug and play as far as speakers.  Harley Davidson isn't the first name to comes to mind when thinking about new speakers for my bike.  The audio system was a big perk when I was looking at CVO's after the engine of course.  I will wait out the warranty and go from there.  The issue isn't unique to my bike so as far that goes I feel a little better.  Maybe I will have to carry and extra speaker around because I know the right one is next and the sound of a blown speaker just pisses me off.

Thanks for the replies.

I have an update on my issue. A factory rep checked the bike out a few days ago. He removed the speakers and determined that the rubber seal between the speaker and the cone is separating causing the distortion. The MoCo contacted the manufacturer and they have all agreed that there is a defect in the speaker. The manufacturer said they should have the upgraded speakers available by mid July. They replaced the saddlebag speakers so hopefully the upgraded speakers will be available before these ones go bad.

I’ve blown both bag speakers in my ‘17 CVO Street Glide... was really excited to hear about the Rockford Fosgate direct fit replacements, especially the 6x9 upgrade until I found out that they don’t apply to the CVO and you have to replace lids.. 💩 doesn’t seem to be a real fix for this issue til your warranty runs out and you’re forced to choose between a $5k outlay and adjusting the fader to fronts only and forgetting you have rears... lol

HD now has an upgraded speaker for the rear bag lids.  See the post above yours.  So far the new version has not blown.

Dave is correct. The dealer received the upgraded speakers that had originally been sent for my 2018 CVO Street Glide in October. Unfortunately my bike was totaled in August so I replaced it with a 2019 CVO Street Glide in mid October. Several weeks later both lid speakers blew and fortunately they still had the speakers to install. It's been about 7 or 8 weeks now (3500 miles since install) and not a rattle out of either speaker. In fact they actually sound better.

Ok, so the lid speakers have a new updated version.

Does anyone know if the fairing mounted speakers on the 2018 Street Glide CVO have updated versions?

They replaced my amp after replacing 4 rear speakers on my 2016 CVO Street Glide and so far they have held up. I also had all but 1 front speaker blow as well. It’s crazy how good the Boom II sounds on some songs and terrible on others. It definitely does not like bass! I fee like they reprogrammed my head unit after the amp and it doesn’t get as loud as it did before. I have thought about adding lower speakers just to keep the volume up while not pushing the other speakers as hard.
