School let out early, with no explanation. 2nd grade. I walked home, my Mom was ironing, my Dad was home from work way too early, & the tv was on. My Dad never left work early. Figured out JFK had been shot. We lived about 70 miles south of Dallas. TV was on for days, a sad time.
Draft stopped the year I graduated, my number was too high for me to be drafted anyway. Lots of turmoil in the 60s, saw it on tv but locally we did have some trouble.
After I married we moved to the DFW area for school/work & anyone & everyone that came to visit wanted to see where JFK got shot. An older friend of mine was there that day, and was close enough to see it all. Very close. He & a friend of his took off work each year to go to Dealy Plaza to remember. It affected him greatly, he had the saddest look when he spoke about it.
We lived a few miles from where Oswald was buried. I have visited Arlington Cemetery. No comparison except both are cemetaries.
