I may be wrong on this and other threads may have discussed this, but looking at the project Rushmore video it dawned on me that the fairing vent is designed to throw air not only around the driver but into him/her as well. I thought about my '12 and how much air I get and I couldn't understand why there needs to be more air. Then I thought about the Bluetooth/voice activated radio controls and what kind of helmet would be needed to make that system work IE 1/2, 3/4 or full-face helmet.
The way I see it, to use all the nice (and I mean nice) toys such as the voice activated controls and Bluetooth, you would need a quiet area around your mouth and ears. The only way to do that is with a full-face helmet. I ride a full-face helmet in the winter or when it is raining, but most of the time it is a 1/2 helmet. A full-face helmet can be very hot in the summer. Thus the fairing venting air in the face. Just a thought. Next question...how many H-D riders will buy a full-face helmet to utilize the toys?

Have never had a full face on. Wear a 3/4 when wife is on board so we can use the intercom.

I was at a dealership today and the guy there said the way the vent is positioned that it actually moves the air AWAY from the riders head therefore causing less turbulence. I would have to test drive one to see if there really is that much difference. Many of the changes look a lot more appealing in person than they do in pictures. I kind of liked the new inner fairing layout. The radio is not as low as it appears but it could have been higher to be more in the line of sight.
I would agree with what someone else said in another thread. I think Harley hired a designer away from Yamaha because a lot of the "new" innovations definitely have Yamaha twist to them.
I did not whip out the check book and trade the wife's 08 Ultra anniversary in on the Ultra limited but it has peaked my curiosity some.

If it is anything like the windspliter and mail box on the 13 CVO King, people under 5'9" will love it and say how great it works. Any one over 5'10 will say how it puts all the wind right at your ears. Seems everything is designed for people 5'8"

I think the purpose is more to reduce wind buffeting

How tall are you? Also, what is your inseam?
