Saddle-bag latch covers
« on: March 27, 2012, 10:47:34 AM »

They changed the latch covers for the 2012 from previous models of the CVO's. Instead they went with the standard for the other Ultra's. Ordered the covers for the 2011 and changed them out.
Why? Probably cost savings. I thought it was a mistake a first but looked them up in the dealer parts book and they were correct as received.

I agree, changed them out last nite. It is a damn shame the moco cheaped out in so many ways on such a high $$$ motorcycle.

Interesting ... Would you mind posting a close up of the 2011 covers? I looked up the parts for both years, 2012 and 2011, and it seems like the 2012 is a more expensive cover. This is the site that I used for reference. http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/ronnies/showmodel.asp?make=hdmc

Senior Chief; the 2012 was changed to the standard latch cover like the Electra Guide Standard, Ultra Classic, etc. and have the red reflector. The 2011 and previous had the style that coincides (for lack of a better word) with the rider and passenger floorboards and the passenger floorboard covers. The trunk has red reflectors and lights so your aren't loosing much in the way of being seen in the dark.

I don't know if I recieved a bad batch or I am missing something but I ordered and recieved the latch covers yesterday and when I went to install, the screws from the lock that attaches to the latch were not threaded. Are they suppose to be or am I suppose to tap the holes?  :nixweiss:

Personally I was dumbfounded that the holes were not threaded.  Here is what I was told by my dealer service manager who I know and trust.  He said the holes do not come threaded and the screw will self tap into the aluminum latch cover.  BUT, go slowly and don't overdo it.  Don't go in but a couple turns and back out and repeat.  Worked for me.

napalm...the OEM lock is screwed into the latch, so when you replace the latch, you remove the OEM lock and place it back into the new latch.

napalm, I ordered from a place called Ronnies Mail Order http://www.shopronniesharleydavidson.com/index.htm?transfered=1&sKey=4NfXwpgaKbluwMS70RgwTs4T5R6QJyZPZ46%2fl1sd%2b9E%3d
part numbers:
90674-09A  for Left
90680-09A for right

good thing about this site is it is broken down like a maintenance manual displaying the part as they are assembled. Cheapest i could find too.
