I know there was a thread on this, but searches do not find it.
My gas cap door would not release when the button was pressed, I had to pry it up with my fingers. Prior post suggested loosening the nut that holds the push button in adjusting it. I tried that a few times, still would not open.
I then loosened and then tightened the 2 screws on the hinge and that made the opening and closing of the door stiffer and now she pope open every time.
Just trying to help the masses. Lol

Believe this is the thread you're speaking of - Flush mount gas cap not popping up (https://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=123203.0).

Found that, but this is the door over the gas cap on a touring bike. Thanks though.

I took mine apart and bent the spring, it's kind of a hooky set up
