It seems there is interest in road racing baggers.  :pineapple:

Entertaining to watch, yup. Biased towards Polaris? Absolutely. With the announcement of IM being a partner in the whole thing make my interest level drop. Everyone makes a big deal about the Polaris Challenger thrashing the HD bikes. Yup, liquid cooled vs air cooled is fair. They seem to forget to mention that. Let's toss a Beemer bagger or even better yet, an F6B in the mix and see what happens....

Phil and Mike. You might look at this website, they are at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta end of April first of May. There were supposed to be 5 Baqger races but now have been cut to three with Indian being the main sponsor.

Gary, the link you quoted me is a different race altogether than the King of the baggers series which you posted. It caught my eye about HD sponsoring a race team and throwing 30k at other teams running a HD in the King of the Baggers race series.

The BRL is testing the waters in a different way for the American v-twins road race competition in Utah, I’m sure rules and such will change frequently as all this is new but it seems they do have allot of interest, or so they say.

Competition at the race track is good for us between these two companies and I look forward to seeing what they got.

Dose the site your looking at have a race schedule? The one I looked at had 5 races but now have lowered it to only 3. The Bagger races are included in the Super Bike races as if you look at the schedule for road Atlanta it is over 3 days.

How is it biased towards Indian?  If the race is biased, that means it’s designed to favor IM and I don’t see that.  Having a better product isn't a bias.

Being The sponsor of the race series sure has a lot of pull. Just rename it to "The IM liquid cooled vs the HD air cooled bike racing series " brought to you by the company with the apples instead of the oranges  >:(

You must have ignored the rest of on rant about inviting the other liquid cooled bikes into the mix.  :nixweiss:

Yes, they originally had five races on the schedule, looks like they cut Barber in AL and Pittsburg in Pa racetracks for a three race series for the king of the baggers.

HD can run a 131 naturally aspirated vs a 111 for Indian, maybe Indian should give the HD's a spot too.  :drink:

This is a race created for American baggers, not European or Japanese, and sponsoring the race doesn’t change the rules.  Based on the results of the first race, Indian doesn’t need any “sponsor” pull to perform well.  I don’t know if you watched the first race, but the Indian won because of superior handling, braking, and design, not because it was liquid cooled.  There were HDs entered that had much more hp, including at least one turbo charged HD.  The third place finisher was a Roland Sands Challenger that had basically a stock engine.

I think Harley should have stayed on the porch on this one.

The rider who won on the Indian ran off the friggin course after leading by a mile and caught the non HD sponsored, wink wink, Vance and Hines Street Glide and passed him like he was sitting still.
With more time to tweak the Indian, and more Indians in the field, I reckon I’d bet my money on the Tribe going on the warpath again.

They already run Harley out of the AMA Flattrack Series.

Maybe HD should simply produce a liquid cooled bagger like everyone has been clamoring for since the release of the Revolution motor.  Holding on to the air cooled is no good if the company cannot sell bikes.

This race keeps getting sponsors, not getting much track time or too much positive reviews by the super bike crowd. I like this event.

Indian mounted Tyler OHara thumped them again. Harley may have to hire this guy away from S&S to win one.

It was a good race, competitive to the end.  If they race on a track with longer straightaways, an HD may have the advantage.

Thanks for the heads up. I have Xfinity and just looked at FS2. It will be broadcast on that channel for cable as well.

That is fun to watch Phil.  The race at Laguna Seca last year had a top speed of almost 130.  At Atlanta they hit over 144 in practice if I remember correctly.  Never heard speeds called out in this race but I still twitched a little just thinking about holding a Road Glide in that lean and feeling all the movement those bikes showed.  It's a weird thing to see but I get a kick out of watching.  They're running really short saddlebags; and still scraping them.  Yeah, a little poo comes out just thinking about it!

One thing I'd not picked up on before this broadcast was the weight limit in their rules package.  625 pounds. I checked the curb weight on a 2020 model and they report in varying from the middle 800s to well over 900 pounds.  My old 2000 had a stock dry weight of almost 800.   While those bikes are 1950s station wagons compared to what those riders are used to racing that's a lot of weight to shed.  Losing a 100 pounds would be easy.  200 to 300?  That's a lot to engineer away.

This bagger race was thought up by drag specialties and who better to benefit from selling aftermarket performance parts. The rules for the bikes starting out was within reason of me understanding, everyone started with a factory bike with some limited modifications allowed. The Indian shined in this format. Now enter the HD factory race team and their sponsorship. This last race blew me away at the way they performed on the Road America track.  It was a two man race until Indian had to exit the track for technical problems. There was 15sec between 1st and 2nd place in the end, both HD factory team bikes.

The HD factory race team and to their credit has built one fine machine, and a good rider to boot. They have proved their point and now they’re the one to beat. I’m curious to see what happens next race and next year with this series. I wish I saw this effort in their production bikes.  :drink:

I attended a local bike nite recently and was surprised to see a couple of performance baggers built to resemble these road racing bikes, I personally knew one of the owners and he rides like a lil girl, not sure why it offended him when I told him this.  :nixweiss:

One more note, Kyle Wyman crashed in a race later in the day on his Ducati and broke his arm that’s gonna require surgery and he may not make the next race in July at Laguna Seca. I truly wish him well and hope he can make it.

I'm still picking Indian/O'Hara at Laguna Seca for the win.  :orange:

All that’s been reported was mechanical issues, nothing more detailed.  Seems the HD is progressively finding more power from race to race.  Interesting competition, IM seems to have the advantage in braking and cornering, while the HDs make up for that on the straightaways.

Travis Wyman rode the Trask turbo bike in the inaugural event last year at Laguna Seca, I thought he'd be a blocker for his brother Kyle when HD signed him on but he can't keep up the pace, maybe he'll settle in after some more seat time.

Kyle may not make it next month because of his injury, surely he won't mount up if not 100%. I truly wish him well.

Does HD has a provisional pilot or Wyman racing??

According to what the announcers said they were running a top speed around 160. As Phil said in a conversation we had prior to the race the longer straights really benefited the HD, while shorter tracks seem to favor O'Hara. I hate to hear Wyman broke his arm, and would bet that O'Hara takes the next one.

I really wish this format would take off, it's exciting to watch.

Based on the stipulations I figure I will take a bet as long as I get the S&S Indian. Heck I might go buy a challenger and paint it like O’Hara’s bike. I’d still ride like a little girl but I would look cool.

Based on the stipulations I figure I will take a bet as long as I get the S&S Indian. Heck I might go buy a challenger and paint it like O’Hara’s bike. I’d still ride like a little girl but I would look cool.

I got this picture on my bedroom door, I'm jealous of his talent, I signed up for his fan club, since we picking the same rider the above is coming yer way.

Is there any takers on the SE race team?

These things are only a couple steps removed from racing a school bus; but they are way cool.

Oh hell yeah; I've raced hopped up riding lawn mowers (and I cheated with NOS).  Before he passed my dad had one of those electric "mobility scooters."  Rolled the thing in the driveway several times.  And that was before we started swapping motors and playing with gearing in the damn thing.  If it rolls it's worth making go faster or trying to race it.  Hell, I've actually paid (not much, but I paid)to watch actual school bus races.  Was a freaking hoot!

I'm addles and demented though.  So it's understandable.  Just to illustrate the truth of that when I was younger and did spend a little time at the track my favorite race to run was the figure 8.  End of the night when everything else was done (because if you ran the 8s first there'd be nothing for the other classes).  Swing to the left and swing to the left then close your eyes and punch it!  That was almost as much fun as the demolition derbies.

Baggers Racing League held their inaugural race and results are 1st HD, 2nd Indian, 3rd HD, Don’t think HD SE team made it to Utah. Next race King of the Baggers final race this year at Laguna Seca, July 11th. All Kyle Wyman has to do is Finnish 6th and he will be crowned King of the Baggers.

Baggers Racing  League is keeping things tight, they’re promoting their pay per view on FITE TV.

A few more races this year in the KOTB series. Polaris has brought on another factory rider Jeremy McWilliams, Tyler O’Hara is back too.
First two races of the year is Indian and Indian again with the podium full of Indians on the second race. While they look good viewing on the screen, like anything else they’re more impressive in person. McWilliams is 57 years old, I’m rooting for the old guy this year.  :orange:

King of the Baggers series are racing at Road Atlanta this coming weekend. The bikes are getting faster, what started out as a novelty idea is gaining traction with the fans. These things are not the slugs you think about when you hear the word baggers and road racing in the same sentence. Below is the schedule for the rest of the year, if they are in your area and like road racing check them out, you won’t be disappointed.

The racing was action packed, hats off to the HD SE team for the win, they earned it.  I’m looking forward to the next one.

They had a 3 lap challenge race for 5 grand, winner takes all before the main event, top 6 qualifiers was in this race based on their qualifying runs, it also determined the starting positions for the top six in the main event a 8 lap race, #99 Indian qualified 7th place, so not invited for this race. The time had come for the challenge race and #99 lined up iast n the grid. The officials pushed him off to the side in the grass, there was some confusion back and forth. They started the race and he peeled out to join them, he got black flagged. Jeremy McWilliams #99 just wanted to race, he started #7 in the main event and finished 4th. This story just stuck out to me and I’ve seen nothing official about it, I like his enthusiasm.

#99 took a tumble in practice and had to do the slide in turn 1 for some odd reason, the gent is 58 years old. I'm a big fan and when I hit the lottery he will own a race team.  :drink:

In reference to confusion about challenge race. Initially they had two qualifying runs to determine starting position, #99 finished 6th in 2nd qualifier and he thought he earned a position. I guess qualifier 2 run was nullified. It’s all I got for explanation if anyone cares.

Most interesting.  Is it open only to HD and Indian, or can ALL Baggers run?  I'd like to see the BMW Grand America, Honda GoldWing, Yamaha FJ, Kawasaki Concours 14 in competition too.

They say just for american v-twins  :nixweiss: this started kinda as a novelty thing by the owner of drag specialties. It quickly morphed into full fledged race bikes, HD had gotten out of all there factory backed racing venues. The first few races Indian challenger showed how superior they were right off the showroom. HD brought on the SE race team and vowed to be on top. S&S manages Indian race program as they do their flat track program with the FTR line. HD won the championship last year in the King of the Baggers series. Search on youtube KOTB series and watch a few videos, they're impressive and gaining a fan base.

The Indian/HD rivalry is good for us consumers the way I see it. Racing sells and always will.

Obviously I like it.  :orange:

The HD SE team placed 1st and 2nd this week at Road America with Indian taking 3rd in the KOTB series. It seems there is four to five contenders in these races and the rest of the field is just there. Good job for the Harley team.  :2vrolijk_21:

I’d like to see a dyno shootout between the two and see what they got, prolly top secrete info. And speaking of secrete I wonder if traction control is used here. Kyle Wyman has focused all his time toward the KOTB series this year, HD is committed to this and it’s good to see them back in the racing game. They are the team to beat. The rest of the field the gig is part time for the riders.

I know it shouldn't matter but I was sorry that Harley lost the number one plate. I would like to believe it is ultimately good for the competition. Before someone responds "the race bikes are not at all like the street version", yes I am aware. It truly was a great race. I planned on going but a wedding got in the way.

I haven’t been updating King of the Baggers racing but it’s as good as ever. Watch this race to the end, I’ve never seen a finish like it before, best fourth place finish ever.

Kyle Wyman/Harley SE team is kicking a$$ in the King of the Baggers series this year, still some racing left and if they come to your area I suggest you go.

I hope this series continues

Gilliam won first race at Brainerd today.

Harlwy will win the series for certain now, just a matter of whether it's factory team or Vance and Hines team

One race to go in KOB series this year in New Jersey.  Looks like it will be a HD for the win, maybe not the SE team.

Tyler O’Hara has not won a race this year  :drink:

King of the baggers series is over for the year with Hayden Gillim winning the title on a HD, his teammate James Rispoli taking second in the championship. Congrats to the Vance and Hines race team.

King of the baggers season started off yesterday and the highlights of the first race in Daytona says it all, Indian has a new factory rider Troy Herfoss, first time he’s seen Daytona and first race on a 600lb bike. Along with Tyler O’Hara I think there is going to be some fierce competition this year between the factory teams. A lil shakeup in HD SE race team riders also, Kyle Wyman sure can ride and he’s not going anywhere.

If you get a chance go see a race in person and you’ll be glad you did, I guarantee it. Race 2 in Daytona today.

Thanks for posting this. I went to the second race on Saturday. I have never seen a king of the baggers race in person before and wow holy chit was it awesome.

Yeah I read Indian revamped their entire race program and bike. Along with adding the European driver to go along with O'Hara. Kyle Wyman is a stud in my opinion.  Go team Harley.

I wonder why not get Honda, BMW and Triumph involved, they all make baggers? And others.

That would be some serious racing.
