Photos of my bike
« on: September 14, 2009, 01:22:28 PM »

After 5 months and 6200 miles, here at last are a few photos of my "new" bike, which I hope some of you might be interested to see.  There are a lot more changes to it than there will appear to be to US members, but because it's an HDI model, anyone else who has an HDI model will recognise many more additions!  A lot of the things are pretty subtle, so you'll only see them if you look closely.  Don 2-lane will recognise many of the parts which passed through his hands a few months back - special mention and kudos to him for his kindness and efficiency!   :drink: :drink: :drink:

Modified saddle to suit Shortarse (me!), Ness Big Sucker hiding under the ham can. Note that I like to keep the rubber trim round the inner edge of the ham can as it gives a more finished look (fix it on with silicone) in my opine.

Dunno Dick (assuming you mean HP and Tq! - if you mean price, it's around $50000) - no dyno near here, and the mods are no more than a Ness Big Sucker A/C, Squealin Beagle mufflers (the original ones that are no longer sold by H-D, 65115-98A), V&H Power Dual Headers, and the HD map loaded with a SuperSERT.

Yeah wasn't too concerned about the Dollar amount we all have our own #'s.

I was talking about HP & Torgue....so you downloaded a map from the dealer. No Dyno.... be nice to get that done..

Bike looks great  :2vrolijk_21:  I may have to steal some of your ideas.

No, not from the dealer, the one that comes with the SuperSert (actually an upgrade to it that came when I checked online for updates).  Seems fine!

Feel free to steal any ideas - you are far enough away that it doesn't matter, so go right ahead!  ;D  Some of the cleverer ones are quite subtle as I say, so you may not see them unless you actually open the photo and look close.  Ask any questions you like!  :drink:

Maybe I should go over the photo posts and comment to them to say what the mods visible in them are - what do you think?

Nah.....we should be able to figure it out. I would hold onto those cards.

You weren't in a rush to get it done were you?? Or is your mind still working on more ideas?

Your #'s should be close to mine. 93/107 running pretty much the same stuff.

Nah.....we should be able to figure it out. I would hold onto those cards.

You weren't in a rush to get it done were you?? Or is your mind still working on more ideas?

Your #'s should be close to mine. 93/107 running pretty much the same stuff.

Oh, it's been pretty much done for a while, I just never got round to taking the pix!  ;D

When I got back from vacation, it was so dirty I thought I'd never get it clean again.  What you see there is the result of 20 man-hours of cleaning!  ???

Hi Jim
Bike looks great. The rear fender look with the number plate up under the tour pack and the decal where the reflector was is the exact look I am trying to achieve as my next project. Did you have to modify the tail light set up and if they are all HD parts that you have on there do you happen to have the part numbers save me getting the wrong thing. Love the flared windscreen I have the smoked one on mine looks great and does and exceptional job of stabalising the front and sending the wind over my head.
Appreciate your help on the rear fender work

Cheers

Hi Jim.

No parts required except 1) a new number plate (7" x 5") - make the numbers and letters as big as you can within that to minimise probs with plod, 2) a replacement rear light lens with a clear window for number plate illumination (mine is Kuryakyn, but the HD one is fine), and 3) the "Cloisonne" to cover the hole. Part number for that I think is 59423-03 - it's a restricted part, so you'll need to give your VIN when you order it.  The existing bracket for the number plate is held on with the same two bolts that the reflector on the US bikes is held on with, so just take off the indicator lights bar, take out the two bolts, remove the bracket, put the bolts back in, put the indicator lights bar back on.   Just disconect the connection to the standard number plate light (inside the back light - just unplugs).

Windscreen is a light green tint Cee Baileys - quality is fantastic!  Best I've ever seen in a HD screen.  I recommend them, though they are expensive here of course.  Is it a Cee Baileys one you have?

Sweet looking ride Jim.  Your additions/changes really turned out great.  I don't understand why the HDI model has to be so different from the US Spec version, but laws are laws.  Nice Job :2vrolijk_21:

Hi Jim
thanks for the info. The screen I have is a Klockwerks Flaire which I imported for the US. Great service and cost aprox £230 with shipping etc.
I'll get cracking on with the fender project.
Thanks for your help.

Where did you get the lower fairing trim edging?

It's one length of the trim that goes around each side of the inner fairing (i.e. the stuff that gets sandwiched between the inner and outer fairings). One length cut in half is exactly the right length to do both lowers.  It is self adhesive, but doesn't stick that well, so it helps, after it's on, to put a tiny spot of black silicone at each end, and every 6" or so in between, on the inside of the lower (it's never seen) to help it stay in place,

Trey

No new parts required.  Uses the existing wiring, taking into the existing speaker pod, in which you make a hole. You do have to trim the plastic on the socket back a little, to let it stick far enough through to get the screw-ring on, that's all.  Some black tape over the slit in the underside of the pod where the original mounting bracket goes is invisible and stops water getting in.

There are a few threads on the board about it - a few of us have done it several times.  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=4947.0;all is one example (from the first time I did it) but there are others.

Just an everyday HID conversion kit for a car, with the appropriate bulbs.  Best to go for the super-small ballasts though, not too much room in the fairing. Keep them (and the cables to the bulbs) as far away from antenna and audio cables as you can.

Hi Jim
further back in the thread you mentioned a mod you had done to the seat because you are a short arse. Would you be so kind as to share that mod with a fellow short arse.
Rechecked the price of the Klockwerks Flaire windshield and it was 140USD and not £250 as previously thought so that made it a little more comparable to yours price wise. Does the Cee Bailys screen do the same as the flaire?

Thanks

Yes, same as the Flare.  Seat was narrowed down, and thinned down, at the front by the local seat guy.  Did a good job, and certainly helped. The lower shocks on the back helped a little too.

I see they've now made a mid year change to the 2010 CUSE5 and fitted a lower seat, so I'm thinking the silly height of these was a problem for more shortarses than just me!

Cheers,

Jim

Hey Jim I saw in a old post that you wanted to change your bar to chubby 575 also. Did you get a change to make that mod? I did it to my 06 and changed all the internal wires with extension. I changed to clutch and throttle and idle cables just because I didn't like that stretch look of the cables. I would like to know if you have to do the same with clutch cable? switch and throttle wires also? Any help would save me a lot of headaches

Hi Trey.

Yes I fitted them to this bike too (if you check the photos, you can see them!) - I had them on my 07.  On the 07, I had to replace the front brake line, and the throttle and idle cables. The clutch pipe was tight, but just OK.   On the 09, there are no throttle or idle cables, the front brake line is fine (because it goes back to the ABS unit, and has plenty slack), and the clutch pipe (again, you can see it in the photos in this thread) is still tight, but just OK. The internal wiring is long enough.  So, answer is, nothing to replace on the current models, but make sure the WO575 bars you get have the slotted end for the TBW.  (Mine didn't, and while you can modify them, as I did, it's a pain to have to do that, when you can get the right bars in the first place!)

Great looking scoot!  I really like the dashinator!

THINK ABOUT PUTTING CHROME TRIM AROUND YOUR HEADLIGHT AND SIDE LAMPS.

Ride on....

Yes, I've always thought the black dashinator kits were neat - shame the MoCo discontinued them...

Reflectors look great Cyril!  :2vrolijk_21:

No speaker trims are non-MoCo. I think they are Custom Chrome if I remember well.

It's one strip (cut in half is exactly the right length!) of the trim that foes round the edge of the inner fairing - sandwiched between the inner and outer fairings.  If you do it, put a little dab of black silicone every few inches along on the inside of the lowers to help keep it on.

What about the cylinder bridge fins.  I have seen them in the Harley Shop that states they will fit a twin cam up to a 2010.  But just like the Chrome bridge it want fit without making some changes,  I personally like the bridge fins to fill out the cylinders better,  Can you tell me what that part number is or is it the same that Harley sells for all twin cams, and if so what type of mod's do you have to do other than paint them with the Grantie Color ?

Just reverse the brackets from the left and right sides.

Same part number as the MoCo sells for all twinks, no mods necessary at all, except to paint them granite (using the MoCo's aerosol can).

Just reverse sides for the brackets (the boards stay on the correct sides) - it adds more comfort when you have your feet down than any other mod you can do, and takes all of ten minutes!  :2vrolijk_21:

Jim an offbeat question for you.
At last years RTTW ther were some flag pole mounts that fix under ther tour pack ,they were being shown off by your fellow countrymen , short flexy style apparently tested to 90 mph. May have been Dunedin Chapter .......................... can you shed any light.

Nope, sorry Cyril.  I'd guess it would be Dunedin, but I can't envisage having seen a type like that.
