I put 41,400 on my first compensator. I know have 88,000 on the bike and I will be installing the 6th compensator on my dime. Counting the one it came with I'm now on number 7. I picked up a new compensator last Saturday and ordered the Compensaver from GMR over the weekend. A few years ago I installed the new primary cover with the oil ridges built into it. I have been running Belray Primary Chaincase fluid for the last 20,000 miles or so. I believe I went through 3 or 4 real quick when I used the ATF fluid. Good for the clutch but bad for the compensator. I just want to make sure I have the newest one available. The part number I picked up was 40100061 on the receipt but the instruction sheet says 40100061,42200064A, 42200095A. The cost was $348.46. I do have the S&S 124 but the majority of the failures were with the 110.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Yes that is the latest one. Your's should also have included the rotor assembly.
42200064A is the same but without the rotor assembly.
What fluid do you plan on running after you have the new compensator installed?

I would assume you already have the latest rotor, since you've previously installed many SE compensators. I doubt you need another one.
There are three different part numbers in the catalog, as you saw on the instruction sheet. They are for different model years and models, based on things like the rotor or Softail versus Dyna/Touring. As far as I know the actual guts of the compensator are the same for all three numbers.
If you have the proper rotor already, I would think you would want the part number for the late model bikes so you don't pay extra for stuff you already have. The attachment is copied straight from that latest 2017 catalog, btw.

Yeah I goofed up on the part numbers. They had a 20% off sale and the lines were long & slow. I should have purchased the one without the rotor since I just replaced that when I had to up grade. Lately I have been using the Belray Primary Chaincase Fluid. I believe I saw a post from Steve @ GMR recommending the Belray. I picked up a catalog yesterday and it was exactly as Jerry stated. Well back for an exchange. I just inspected the compensator and I was surprised on how well it looked. I might just try a new set of spring washers that I have someplace.

Btw, for those who already have the latest rotor and don't need the plastic tray, you can just buy the parts from the regular parts catalog instead of the full kit. They have two subassembly numbers, one is for the spring pack and the other is for the actual guts of the compensator. If all you need is the guts for instance, you can order part number 36500034A (see attachment). It has an MSRP of $220, but places like Surdyke sell it for $179.

Yeah this is something I'd like to know too.
Also someone told me to run an additional spring in the spring pack to stop the clattering when engaging the clutch. Don't know it that's a good idea or not. Anyone heard of this?

Looking at the left side of the diagram. What is the black ring with the gear? Is it a shim or an O-ring?

If you're talking about #15, that's the drive gear, if you mean the smaller dark ring looking item, that's either a collar or an o ring seal.

Yes that is what I am talking about. (smaller dark ring) Wondering if there is an o-ring in the inner groove of that drive gear.
Anyone know for sure or have one on the shelf they look at? Thanks

#15 is the shaft extension. The older style used shims between the rotor and the spring, the newer style does not. I assume that ring is from the older model illustration, but can't say for certain.

Thanks. I am really curious about this. (reason) I bought a new SE comp and found an o-ring loose in the box.
And it just happens to fit in the inside groove of the shaft extension.

I removed my Baker compensator,(8000 miles) which was giving me some pretty good "bangs" on hot start up and replaced it with the latest SE Compensator. You could say I slightly modified the SE unit. I sent all the components, except for the spring pack and bolt to a company called WPC for their metal surface treatment. (it is a treatment that enhances the surface to reduce friction and strengthen engine parts.) I made sure to check the preload before installing. (.325) so no shims were needed. Installed the latest HD primary chain tensioner and outer chrome cover with the built in oil tray, so I did not have to deal with gluing in the plastic one that came with SE compensator. Bike started up nice and quiet took it out for a nice long run. Starts great and idles quiet very happy with the outcome.
