Whats that noise
« on: July 14, 2008, 07:36:13 AM »

I have a 2007 softail deluxe. Any time I let my bike set for 30 min. or longer, my front end squeaks. Dealer said its not covered under warranty. Its not tiers or brakes so what is it

Did the dealer identify the source of the squeak before determining whether or not fixing it was covered under warranty, or was that just a blanket statement to cover all potential causes/fixes??   :nixweiss:

Yes to both, standing still rocking the bike, or going down the road . It stops after a few miles, or if I let it warm up for about 10-15 minutes

Steering head (triple tree) bearing.

I've got a "click" that I can both feel and hear when applying heavy front brake, not death squeeze, but good moderate pressure. My first thought is something shifting in the trees or neck, but everything that I have checked is tight. I've done the swing test and if anything it's on the tight side, not loose. It's not bad enough to strip down, but if you've run into this before, I'd be interested in your experience.

AXIL,

Well, I figured I'd wind up back up in there anyway backing everything off and retorquing everything on the way out. Just isn't going to happen right away.

Thanks.

The yoke's on you!!! :P

Can't understand how it could be a neck bearing? Sounds like brakes or wheel bearing. When it's making this noise and if you put the brakes in lightly do you hear it anymore, or does it change? Also you could put it on a jack/lift and spin the front wheel while listening to track it down.

Sounds like typical dealer BS!!
