Can anyone tell me the difference between EVO's and Twin Cam's? My daughter asked and I have no idea.

Simple answer is Evo's only have one cam... Twin Cams have two.

There are a few other differences as well, the oiling system is routed differently (through the filter before the engine on twin cam and after the engine on Evo), the TC has more surface area for cooling.  I think the later Evo was their best engine.

The main difference lies in the pushrod angles. The more cams, the less pushrod angle. Race motors use 4 cams like a sportster type design. Less angle allows for much higher cam lifts, like you see now in these TC's. You could never run the lifts we see in these TC's in the single cam motors. Way too much flex/stress on the valve train and chit breaks all over the place. This 2-cam design allowed HD to make these motors bigger and more powerful (while maintaining their reliability), which was necessary as the EPA made things tougher. An Evo designed to meet today's EPA prolly couldn't get out of it's own way! ;)

Hoist hit it right on the head. One other change that a lot of people don't know is the TC motor is already set up to go liquid! It all comes down to BIG BROTHER and emissions! THEN WE GET A HOLD OF THEM AND THE EPA THING GOES RIGHT OUT THE DOOR!
