Whats on your garage floor?
« on: March 17, 2011, 10:40:51 AM »

I am in the process of deciding what type of application to install on my garage floor and thought I would ask what others are using. Looks like the majority of folks have epoxied their floor.

I currently have garage floor paint that is peeling and don't want to go through all the prep work and moving everything out.

I am leaning towards Racedeck, is nice but pricey for < 600 sq ft.(I could take it with me should I move).

Thanks all!

Thanks I saw those posts, I like VaEagle' floor (Racedeck).

They sent me a sample and it looks well made, and would probably stand up to my MC lift and center stand.

Cheers!

now the next step. how many sq feet do you have??, i.e. my garage is 1,400 sq feet... multiply x $4.00 sq ft.  (delivered) thats $5,600 ....OUCH!!!!, I did mine with commercial Armstrong tile at .55 cents sq ft. total cost $770 (from home depot)... Seal it and it holds up very well.. no regrets, would do it again  :2vrolijk_21:

Mine is carpeted.

Mine too. Whenever one of the neigbors has their house redone, I grab the old carpet and swap out what's been in the garage since the last time. The installers haul off what I pull out of the garage and don't care since they've got to get rid of a big piece of carpet either way.

Mohawk, nylon. :huepfenlol2:

I have a three car garage but have the single car side carpeted.  A resident spilled a little bleach on a new carpet and because it would be from a different dye lot, we just replaced the entire unit, so I snatched it.  The bikes love it.  I'll try to remember to get some pics tonight.

Carpet in the garage? My issue would be the rain and snow melt  brought in on the wife's car.

This is easy enough to fix

Leave the wife's car in the driveway.  :D

Mine is covered with cigarette butts, and beer tops. Cigarettes @ $50 per carton, anbd beer $20 a case, I'm thinking that $4 per S.F would be cheaper.

Oil spots, grease spots, glue spots, leaves that blow in when the door opens, spiders, beer bottle tops, cigarette ashes, cigar ashes, the occasional munchie crumbs, and various lawn care equipment is put wherever it will fit.  It gets swept or blown out with the leaf blower whenever I get around to it, or if I know I'm going to be wallowing around on the floor underneath the bike changing fluids, etc.

1/4 of the basement does have a piece of carpet, which is underneath my 8 foot Brunswick Pool Table.

I have an aversion to painting perfectly good concrete floors, as you then just get into a cycle of having to do it over and over again.  I guess the epoxy would work better, but I don't mind the look of concrete at all.  When I worked in maintenance for UAB hospital, the Inganeers (who became administrative directors, managers, etc) in their infinite wisdom, used to make some of the helpers paint the machine rooms, which had floor drains, water dripping from this or that piece of equipment...all I ever saw was that the paint would bubble up and peel off regularly, so I always considered it a waste of time and money.

Not saying that a nice, clean, well orgainized garage or basement is not a good thing, but I'm just not quite that anal in my older years.   ;)

You'd be surprised how much your old knees feel better spending the day on carpet than spending a day on concrete. Every time I work on my bike or somebody else's I'm glad for the carpet. And like I said in an earlier post, it's free. Can't beat that.

I have had real good luck with a product that Premier Garage installs.

It's impervious to grease, oil and gas--etc.

You can clean up any spots with Windex and a paper towel.

My guess is a 24' x 24' garage would cost about $2,500.

New concrete in the garage and it was sealed. Shiny semigloss finish which is way slippery and not what I had in mind. I have taken berber carpet from a rental and covered the bike side. If it gets ruined? So What? The lift does not slide around. The sealed finish when wet is dangerous!

PS
You can stock up on carpet by keeping an eye out in your neighborhood. If you see somebody getting a large section redone, grab their old carpet and hang it overhead in your garage via some rope and eye hooks. I've got a 12x12 section hanging right now waiting for a couple of bros to move my Handy BOB 1500 so I can replace the stuff WARDOC got dirty. I'm still trying to figure out how a Sr Navy Corpsman can be such a slob when working on his motorcycle. I guess nobody ever told him about the mechanic and the surgeon - - ah that's another story  ;)

Look into Granitex, your local Vortex spay on liner should be able to hook you up. This is a great product that is oil and chemical resiestant and has a life time waranty. It is a little pricey but a great product. Unlimited color choices.

I went with the RaceDeck with the H-D logo. Karen got 2 new bathrooms and I got a new man cave complete with a frig full of cold beer. The pic's are not very good but you get the idea. My garage is 22 x 34. The floor is very easy to clean and had a good grip when it's wet. The Mistress loves her new home.

Costco has an online product 7.5' x 20' silver/gray rubber type diamond plate finish @ $199.00 per roll you can roll it up and take it with you if you move
On sale right now $30.00 off per roll so now 169.00 i think this includes shipping
