Wheeldock Centre Stand
« on: May 26, 2011, 06:34:05 PM »

Ordered and installed an EZ-Up Centre Stand. After seeing 3 bikes last year in Death Valley dump on their sides from the factory stand melting through the pavement, I decided to get one. Installed in about a minute. Only issue was I needed to adjust the passenger foot board up 1" to allow better access for my heal to lift the bike while sitting on the bike.

Slick as snot, and one of the best add ons to date.

IMO works better than the videos on their web site.

What will happen when those legs sink in? It'll start leaning and eventually topple as well. I'm not saying that the EZ-Up isn't a great mod to have for other benefits, but I always carry a jiffy stand pad for soft asphalt, direct, and gravel.  Just hate to see you with a false sense of security.

For the last 20 plus years, Ive used an old hockey puck with a notch cut out, without incident. Out of the nine of us last year, three bikes went down. Four with center stands and two of us with pucks, no issue. The three that went down, two used nothing and one used a jiffy.

Up here the temps are not extreme like they were in DV,..... point taken though.

Just in case no one thinks it can happen, I had it happen to me many years ago on one of my bikes that came from the factory with a center stand.  Since that time, I only use the center stand on concrete, never on asphalt.  And like you, I always carry a spare jiffy stand pad in the tour pak or saddle bag.

There are a lot of good reasons to have a center stand (and I think it's criminal that H-D doesn't have them as standard equipment).  I highly recommend them to anyone wondering about installing one.

I really like my wheeldoc center stand until I see a speed bump. It will also drag in turns like the ones on Dragon Tail. For me the positives out weight the negatives.

I use the same (gang box cover) and have a rope tied to it in one of the screw holes.  That way I can throw it down, adjust it, and recover it while on the bike.  I have a loop on the other end of the rope and loop it over my left mirror when I am using it.

kinda looks like you have to spin the rear tire a bit to ride of off of it, there goes your nice epoxy covered floor.
my old floor can't be hurt any more than it already is so i think i'll be getting one .

I use fishing line for my jiffy stand pad; same idea.

I also have a WheelDock center stand on my SEUC.

Just my $0.02, but when my Suzuki sank in while on the center stand - both legs sank in equally and eventually the lever part would come in contact as well, but the bike remained perfectly upright - this is not to say that it couldn't have gone differently, just that I haven't seen it happen - YMMV.

Agree it would be less likely with two points of contact rather than one.  Especially when both of those points are tucked up under the bike.  But I have seen a Road King with a center stand on its side after one leg of the stand sunk in to asphalt.

I just sit back a little and drive right off.  No spinning unless I try.

If you ever decide to add a true track stablisation to you ride this stand will have to be removed. They will not work together.

I have the Wheeldock on my Ultra..  Love it.. it is great to have the bike upright when cleaning.  This past weekend changed all the oils with out having to use my jack stand.  Pans fit perfectly under the bike.  Picked it up at AZ Bike week this past spring..  now do not know how I lived without it.  Just my $.02.

For those who wish to install such a stabilizer, there are other brands that will work with a center stand.  But on recent model ('09 and later) Touring bikes such a stabilizer shouldn't be necessary anyway.
