My take is that you WILL have the lifters go out. I had the ticking sound for two years before it happened at 30K. Several dealers all said it was normal and sounded fine---until the oil pressure went to zero and the oil pump was full of metal from the failed lifters. Luckily, I was several miles from home and could take it to the dealer the next day. I didn't have the extended warranty and it cost me $3500 ( after some help from the the dealership and mo. company).  Waiting, for you, will be fine to take advantage of the extended warranty as long as you are comfortable with having them go out when you are on a long trip.  It may be worth the several hundred dollars to do preventive replacement so it doesn't screw up a vacation.  It is a "ticking" time bomb.

My bike had 9K when I got it. Just to be on the safe side the lifters were replaced with S & S premiums and the inner cam bearings were changed to Timkens. Put new cam tensioners while it was apart. So far so good at 19k.

These latest OE Twin Cam lifters suck the large one.  The previous OE Delphi lifters are better, and S&S is now selling these exact ones as their "standard" lifter.  You'll see the MoCo recommends the SE lifters (with the beefed up rollers) and STILL recommends 7,500 mile replacement.  The previous Delphi SE lifters IMO are better.  If you really want to go 20K safely pony up for the Jims set.

Honestly though with adjustable pushrods a lifter job isn't terribly difficult or time consuming.  Sure better than an oil pump full of metal jiblets.

No Problems here... just under 30,000 miles.  My biggest problem lately is getting on the damn thing in order to put more miles on it.

The only parts replaced was the clutch, which was my choice... and the front wheel bearings, because I can't stop the wheelies.

My 08 CVO is not untouched. I had motor work done to upgrade cam and lifters, compression, etc. tried sun 3 when new but didn't like it. Used Amsoil and was very happy. After build and break in used Redline. Motor sounded like a thrashing machine. I went back to Amsoil in all 3 holes. 20-50 in the engine Primary oil in primary and Transmission oil in tranny. All Amsoil. Very happy with this oil.
I am wondering about Liqui-Moly for the engine.
What I notice is how much quieter my tranny and motor are when using Amsoil.
Just my opinion

Well I am closing in on 40000 miles on my 14 with just regular maintenance, oil changes between 4000 and 5000 miles running Liqui Moly  10W-60 Motor Oil. for the last 30000 miles Top end is still very quite. Heavy duty Shock proof in the gear box and what ever I have around in the primary. Fingers crossed

Be afraid, be very afraid.  Regardless of how well maintained it is the lifters are still a very, very weak point on the 110s.  I know 'cause I had lifter failure four times - twice each on my '07 and my '12.  Maybe your '14 has been improved with the SE lifters but I'd still be nervous.  Just sayin'.  Good luck.

I know a 14 CVO Limited had is lifter go out with 21K on the bike while we were riding out in WA, a long way from home.

One of my best friends lifters went out on his 15 CVO Road Glide ultra with 35K on the motor.  My 15 CVO Road Glide had lifters go out with 43K on the motor.

Luckily these bikes were under warranty, as its about a 6K repair, as two of the three required motor replacement.

Compared to that its pretty cost effective to change to better lifters.

Sorry folks, my 110 lasted a total of 480 miles before I had the work done to it. Now, if I could just get out to ride the thing more!

Greetings,

I thought I was lucky but at 35,000 and just after getting home from a 2400 mile trip around Lake Superior my 2009 S/E Roadglide ate a lifter.  At least it waited until I got home to self destruct.  No internal mods, consistent Redline oil changes and mostly two up touring.  It did have a Master-Tune and a 30 tooth sprocket.

Well what's a boy to do.  Had the 117 kit installed while it was apart.  Hoping the milder cam and the S&S lifters I used will keep it alive and dependable for at least 30,000 more.  I love my orange beast and plan to keep it.

Having worked in several dealerships I can say that it seems to be hit or miss with the Twin Cams.  I do believe that there were several design and or manufacturing flaws inherent with all Twin Cams but really present on the 110's, ie, tensioners, compensators, lifters, God awful valve train noise, crank issues, etc.  I also believe that Mother HD knew about all these issues and just turned a blind eye.

Do love my 2009 S/E Roadglide though and I plan on keeping her fit and running.   :soapbox:

Well mine is in getting new lifters put in.  Just over 36,000 miles.  Awaiting word if there is any other damage that might require further work to be done.

Bought my 12SG with 3700 miles and at 7,000 miles  the lifters went bad .  Went with S&S 113" from Don @ HD Street performance. Extremely happy with around 130 hp and tq
