I'm asking for a buddy that has an ongoing issue. Below is what he says is going on with his Fat Boy.
Any ideas that I can pass on to him would be appreciated.
Any ideas on my prob. 2000Fat Boy. Intermittent fault over last 2yrs.Engine shuts off as i am riding. Shuts down 4-6miles,leave 30seconds n starts, 200yds shuts down but starts straight away, 1/2mile shuts down and wont start for few mins, anoth mile shuts down but starts straight away. When this happned 2yrs ago pressumed fuel and cleaned carb n all ok until last summer then did it again last year but fuel tap weeping so changed it. Now this week done it every day(carb stripped n cleaned). Tonight on way home mate following saw blue flame from rear exhaust just as shut down. Forums say Bank Angle Sensor or Cam Sensor or Crank Sensor. Dash codes are all showing clear. Any help appreciated as to replace all sensors will cost a fortune.

Check coil pack and plug wires...could be loose, similar thing happened to a buddy, nearly pulled his hair out trying to diagnose, then found the coil pack loose, no more issues

I think those have the fuel pump line inside the tank that gets a hole rubbed in and when it gets to half tank it is really running out of fuel. Look inside under the module in tank for a clear ribbed fuel pick up line. Was a well known problem for a few years.

I believe this model has a carburetor so it would not have a fuel pump

Have had failing cam position sensors behave not too different than you're describing.

Need to determine if it's fuel or ignition. Hard to do over the interweb.

I did say to him to do a ground test on the sensors, but he says he has no codes coming up when it happens.

It does have a carb.

Temporary fuel starvation? Check the fuel filter.

I think there was an issue at one time with ecm connector corrosion. Clean it up and use electronic grease.

Filters been changed, carbs been overhauled, twice.
