I currently have a Zippers muscle 95" motor and it makes 110/112, and i happy with it but i want more. If i do the 120" kit do i need to upgrade the bearing.

Welcome to the site! I have a Zipper's 120 kit and you must do the timken bearing upgrade.

If the 110 runs so hot how come some of you guys want the 120's?. Won't they run even hotter

I cannot make any claims on the zippers kit but our kits with a CNC head you will see cooler running temps even with higher compression ratios, this comes from the a head that has great VE

Sorry mate, I'm from across the water, what's that all mean in plain speak :-[

Are you saying; if you "port the heads" it'll run a lot cooler? So much cooler that you won't have a hot issue like the 110 Screaming Eagles?
If thats true, why don't they port the 110's?
Just somebody with a hot 110 and trying to learn something.

I have the Jims 120 with a Vortec Port Job by SBC (Short Block Charlie), the hottest the temperature ever got and that was in 100 deg plus heat was 235 deg F, of course I have the HD Oil cooler.
Am assuming so do the 110s.
I am guessing that the 110s run hot do to the ECM set up, lean running of the engine to pass EPA.

If you let the motor breath more, it does run cooler!! Having the heads flow better helps, but it is does cost a few $$$$ !!
Some guys say if you do a Race Tuner, high flow air cleaner, and different mufflers, (plus change to better oil), it will run better and cooler!! Probably the best improvements for the buck!!
Alot of these guys here know alot more than me, but those seem to be popular up-grades that help alot!! :2vrolijk_21:

What I am saying is that with our heads we are able to increase flow and velocity and in that process you allow the engine to build more VE due to head porting. The engine once tuned will run cooler make more hp/tq and rev faster. I am speaking of our heads, there are plenty of porters out there that hand port heads or they are cutting them without CNC programing and it can be hit or miss. I have tested dozens of other ported heads and from that you can look to see how much of a difference a CNC head with correct programing can make.
As for HD I have no idea why they do what they do.

I tell you something, with the knowledge you guys have I'd happily pay for access to this site (Well, I would if I wasn't a Yorkshireman) :cherry:

Can you reverse or change the "ECM set up" so that it doesn't run so lean & hot?
Thanks

The changes with the ECM would have to be done with a Engine Management System i.e HD SE Race Tuner, Zippers Auto Max sp?, Power Commander etc.
The only bearing it would have on the heat issue think, would be a better running engine by tuning for optimum running conditions, and this in turn would include changing out Air Filters for better breathing and a less restricitve exhaust.
The most important thing you can do with upcoming engine work and add on is proper tuning. With mine because I added a Kuryakyn 57 MM Throttle Body and 6.63 injectors it was a custom map that took apprx. 4 hours of tuning and dyno runs.
