Two motorcycle accidents — one serious and one fatal — occurred at the same spot within exactly one hour of each other early Saturday morning in Pittsburg, California.
The accidents occurred on Highway 4 near Bailey Road at 1:16 a.m. and 2:16 a.m., according to a report in the San Jose Mercury News.
The first accident was fatal. California Highway Patrol officer Ralph Caggiano told the Mercury News that 25-year-old Nicina Acevedo of Oakley was riding her Harley-Davidson motorcycle east on Highway 4 when she lost control near Bailey Road and crashed in the fast lane.
Acevedo was ejected from her motorcycle, which skidded a few hundred feet from the crash scene, Caggiano said. Several vehicles stopped to try to help her, as she lay responsive on the freeway, in the lane next to the fast lane.
Moments later, Acevedo was struck by a passing Toyota Camry, Caggiano said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Exactly an hour later, a black Chrysler 300 and a motorcycle collided in exactly the same spot. Investigators did not state what caused the crash or who was at fault, but at least one of the drivers was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
