Wow - that was crazy! I think the rider had time to get the bike out of the way, but you can't tell in the video what was going on around it.

The rider explained on reddit that he was just dumbstruck by the backing up and then was caught off guard by the change of direction and acceleration that followed. The car is actually in the other lane but inexplicably changed lanes while backing. The driver was a "student" driver who panicked.

That's a big panic... The instructor should have been more careful when explaining where the brake was - LOL. I can see being dumbstruck witnessing such an event, particularly in trying to figure out which way to go if you tried to escape the backing vehicle. The bikes replaceable - glad no one got run over.
