Title: cyco1450's 2018 Black Earth build
Post by: Puzzled on November 24, 2018, 03:50:21 PM
Brad's bike came in today for a little make over. The initial plans are for a 18x5.5 fat tire front end. Front and rear fast up air ride. MRI center stand with OEM type switches in the fairing cap. All of Boom 2 audio stuff is coming out in favor of some Biketronics equipment. There will a few splashes of paint here and there. I'm sure there will be more as the build progresses.

Some orange pinstriping will be added to the rear fender.

The new front fender will be a wrap style. Instead of gloss black it'll be the black metallic color with the orange stripe. The lower legs will be a smooth version from American Suspension.

Do you plan on using the baddad chin spoiler with the chopped engine guard or changing the engine guard totally?

Brad likes the Bad Dad chin spoiler so I will cut it to go around the stock engine guard. I would like something taller that extends up to the fairing support. With the fat tire 18", no rake and dark colored bike we may be able to pull it off.

I ordered side covers today however I am rethinking my choice now. Most of the covers available look huge when used with stock bags and a non stretched tank. The rest of them are for stretched bags. There isn't a lot available that look proportioned with stock bags.

The saddlebag guards work well. I have not seen a full length skid plate offered by anyone for OEM bags. A piece of 1/2" aluminum angle would bend easily to follow the contour of the bag. 1" would work better as it would have more surface area for tape/screws. I'd cut the face down to 1/2" and leave the bottom at 1".

I bought the guards but wish the had a "Comfort Profile" available like they did for the pre-'14 models.
I'm not crazy about the new design but as you said ... they work.

Air ride switches for the fairing cap.

I started pulling the wires for the air ride system. The speaker grills from the fairing and bag lids have been removed. All four of the factory speakers are out. Next up is to take the gauge cluster housing off. This will allow me to get to the switches and fork tube caps.

I spent some time working on the bike today. Not much was picture worthy as I ran wires and air line.

I installed an air line safety switch. This setup is used to open the air lines when the bike is parked. This will prevent the bike from airing up if someone were to hit the switches or if air creeped past the valve. I've seen bikes fall over when air creeped past the valve while parked.

No I do not.

From my experience painters don't usually share that information.

Thanks that’s always been my experience with CVO paint. The parts catalogue lists the lower rocker covers as scorched orange so I assume that’s also the colour on the stripes on that model but a whole bike in scorched orange looks very different.

Thanks for posting your updates they are always very interesting. Great work and attention to detail.

I really love the fat front tire.  The bike looks great.

The Ugly as stock plate frame set up has to go.  It kills the look from the rear.  As you know, the Yaffe Stealth III is an good cure, and would really clean up the back of the bike.

Another  one of your great creations. I agree with Dave on license plate. I am also not a big fan on chopped tour pac. They are pretty much useless for storage and prefer the full size removable, especially since the Rushmore tour pac came out. I feel stupid criticizing any of your builds because you are truly an amazing artist and I know the customer has a say. Also just personal preference. A beautiful bike.

I posted a video on Facebook with how much a late model Razor Pac holds. More than one would think. Not nearly as much as the American Tourister King Pac. Lol

For me personally it's ideal for what I needed mine for (2 leather jackets, 2 hoodies, 2 pair of chaps, 2 pair of gloves, assorted hats and eye wear.. and Mamma's brush and hair clips... 😉

I'll ask about the size.

For me it's to short. Than again Brad's seat isn't broken in yet so I feel like I sit hi on the bike. We are both similar height so imagine it's the same for him.

I was able to put a little under 200 miles on the bike. It rides very well with the tire profile and front air ride. I'm thankful at how well it manuvers. 9.4 miles from the house a car pulled out in front of us 😠. A quick zig and zag and I was on the center line avoiding the car and not jumping into the other lane where I had no idea if there was a car there our not..... Road tested!!

Ciro makes some small LEDs that run right under the saddle bag lids.   Not very noticeable off, but lots of light when on, will work as run, brake and turn lights.  Saw them at the race track in Daytona.

Brad tried to have the radio flashed at HD with no luck. Using the radio number and vin from the bike I was able to get a flash tool from Biketronics. The flash set the radio back to "0", no amps. This made a big difference in the sound. We gained the fade function again. This had to be done as all of the Boom stuff was removed and the bike was looking for it!

8" mid range installed. I went with a mid range as opposed to a mid bass as the amp is a four channel capable of running 8 speakers. I wouldn't be able to tune the mid bass and mid range separately as they are running off of the same output.

My thought process is to follow the stripe off of the tank and have it meet up with the stripe from the side cover. I'll leave one side of the stripe body color and the other side will be black. This will match the tank and side covers.

Puzzled did a great job putting it all together. His work is spot on. We have a couple minor paint issues to solve but besides that the build is essentially done ( they’re never really done). Now to pile up some miles. The bike turned out exactly how I imagined it. My favorite element is the 18 x 180 front wheel. I like the low down, mean stance of the 18” wheel. Many people (including Puzzled) tried to talk me into the 21 or 23 x 180 wheel but i was stubborn on the 18 and glad i stayed with it.
