Lifters
« on: August 12, 2018, 05:49:49 PM »

I read a lot about lifters taking out motors on the 110 why is it that  they don’t have any trouble with the smaller motors ?   There’s not much difference between a 96 , a 103,  so why so much lifter trouble with the 110s ?

They all have issues, less so on the 96 and 103's. There isn't any rhyme or reason as to why but the speculation from many is that the 110 head spring pressures are really high.

Seems to be the newer 110's with lifter problems. I have an 2009 Springer with a 110 and have not had any problems. I am looking at a 2015 Tourer with a 110 and my service guy said straight away that I should consider better lifters.

Because they have a less intense cam lobe plus lighter valves, springs and retainers. None of them have good lifters from the factory but that said they are not the root cause.

Do any of the engine builders on here use a brand of lifter they would trust for more then 20,000 miles? I just put new lifters in with my 117 build st 8500 miles. My 1st set of factory lifters got replaced under warranty at 5000 miles because they where knocking hard up start up and didn’t pump up for 5 to 10 minutes!

There are only a few manufacturers that make that lifter. Most companies just re-brand em.
