Title: Oil Cooler Fan for 2018 CVO Road Glide
Post by: Desert Jeff on February 09, 2018, 06:21:35 PM
If you purchase a 2018 CVO Road Glide, FLTRXSE, the owners manual on page 23 will state that there is fan driven oil cooler. However, in looking under the bike I found that, while the shroud for the fan motor was there, there was no fan. I called HD and they said that a the fan is not on the parts list for this bike. However, since it comes with a 117CI motor and I ride in hot weather, I had the fan installed. I think HD decided at the last minute not to include the fan and forgot to change the owners manual.

You have me really curious right now.  It will be two weeks before I am home again and can look at mine.  I am 98% positive mine has the fan also.  I am pretty sure I saw it when I was under the bike Sept 3 before I signed papers.

No fan here. At first glance when I first brought it home I thought I had a fan. As it turns out after looking closer it was just the shroud. I'll bet they include it next year.  :'(

Not included per the official parts list.

Everything is there except the fan, which Harley will be happy to sell to you for a pittance ($180 -$190), part number 26800095, plus whatever the dealer charges to enable it in the BCM/ECM.

Wow, guess I missed that.  Must have saw the shroud and believe the fan was there.  Wow, that is a bit expensive for the fan.

It looks like the fan is stock on the police models and the free wheeler

Have seen that part number.  If memory is correct it's an integrated oil cooler and fan.  So the replacement would entail throwing away the original oil cooler to replace it with the combined cooler and fan unit.

Don, the 26800095 part number ($185) is just for a replacement fan.  The entire cooler kit is part number 62700204 ($329.95), and it comes with the cooler, shroud, and fan.  Since posting originally I've been searching to determine if the fan can be used with the shroud that came on the bike from the factory.  It appears it is not a direct fit, but some enterprising souls have indicated they did some minor modifications to the stock shroud so they could bolt the fan to it.  Typical of H-D, they chose to not make the fan stock AND they make the stock shroud so the fan can't be installed easily, trying to force people to spend $330 to make the bike the way it should have been stock.

Curiosity wastes so much time  ;D

Had remembered one kit I installed.  Found a PDF to it here:

https://hdonlineshop.de/instructionsheets/62700204.pdf

In that kit the parts came as an assembly carrying a single part number.  HD being HD it just didn't occur to me they'd offer anything but the most expensive option of an assembly despite the fact that the parts were easily separated.  Looking back now at the exploded parts view and list see the options.

Wow that is sad that the fan is not a direct fit.

I don't have access to the 2018 owners manual.  However, hasn't there been some issues over the years with lawsuits to automotive companies because wrong information was printed in their models owners manual?  I believe there was a rather publicized buy back of certain models because of this error.  I'd do a Google search but I don't personally have a dog in this hunt....just bringing up something that current owners may want to investigate.  If the MoCo owners manual for that model states there is a fan, sounds like something needs to be corrected other than the MoCo stating "oops"..... :nixweiss:

All they'd need (and it's very unlikely such is not there) is a simple disclaimer somewhere in the owner's manual saying all descriptions therein are subject to any changes by the manufacturer.

You are probably right on that, Don.  It's next to the disclaimer "They all do that".... :huepfenlol2:

For sure.  And "They all do that" is right after the warranty language that says "Your warranty is void because we say so an/or we just feel like it.  You're screwed; often.  We look forward to your next Harley Davidson motorcycle purchase."

How hard can it be?  Oh right, it's H-D.

So, did you purchase the whole new oil cooler with the fan included or just the fan and have it installed? How much??

Thanks

I ordered the part number Jerry supplied. My dealer cross referenced the fan in the oil cooler kit and told me it was the same fan part number. If they ever finish with my bike I will know if they got it to work or not. I hope they get it taken care of.

A couple weeks ago my GG arrived. After reading this post I checked my bike and sure enough the fan is missing.  I don’t really understand why this was not included in one of the most expensive HD bikes but that’s HD.  Needless to say I am going to add the fan and several other things like lowers with speakers, a stage IV and more.  I just wanted to say thanks to those who brought this topic up.
