« on: September 08, 2018, 09:59:50 PM »

Hi all, I'm reading some scary stories about this sumping issue on the M8 CVO's. Just purchased a 2018 and would love to hear from anyone with a positive experience???

Well, I have a 17 CVO Streetglide. Installed stage 4 kit at 1500 miles. Swapped cam to a tman at around 4000 miles. Bought it December 2016 right off the truck. It now has 29600 miles on it. Ride it like i stole it and beat on it like it owes me money. Have ridden it from Louisiana to Yellowstone and Louisiana to the Smokies and all points in between. Dynoed 123/123 with Harley high flow exhaust on it and stock cvo filter. It has never sumped or given me any problems. Yes it transfers oil from trans to primary but I'm not gonna loose any sleep over it. It's a splash lube system and there is plenty of oil to keep things wet in there. Don't let other peoples opinion keep you from enjoying your new bike!! Congrats on your bike and hope you enjoy it as much as i enjoy mine! Ride on!!

I'm pretty sure no one has said this is a 100% problem, so you may or may not have an issue.  No one can tell you you won't have a problem at some point, and Harley still hasn't told the public exactly what is causing the problem.  Consider this to be like all the crap shoots with previous Harley models, like the ticking time bomb CVO110's.  Not everyone suffered those big lifter failures, but many did and some did with more than one engine.  The same has been true with the M8 sumping issue.  If Harley would be honest and forthright about the sumping problem, including telling everyone exactly what the root cause is and what they are doing to permanently fix it, it would be a nice change in how they do business.  Don't hold your breath.  Ride it the way you normally ride and don't worry about it.  If it fails, it fails.    Life goes on.

Stage 2 with no sumping problems at all.  Runs great, engine is solid.  Can’t say as much for my tranny though.  Ripped third gear out of it.  The consensus is that it went into fourt but never came out of third.

Oh Kclarke, don'tcha know they all do that?  It's that new-fangled "smooth drive" where the gears are so smooth, ya can't tell it's'a'shiftin... ;D

2018 CVO Street Glide w/ Stage 1 upgrade, 3,150 mi. w/ no motor issues whatsoever.  Harley hit this one out of the park, couldn't be happier - well on 2nd thought . . . . . maybe if I didn't have that $500/ mo. payment!
