I unhooked the battery to install the new pipes and the alarm is still going off even with no battery in the bike. How do I get it off

Turn on your ignition while you are carrying the alarm fob with you.
Then remove the 40 amp. main fuse and you won't have any trouble.
 Alarm is off.

You'll have to hook the battery back up first, then do the fuse removal.

the siren has a battery back up so that if someone just disconnects the battery, you still have an audible alarm.

I had the same problem when I unhooked my battery...noise makes you work a little faster to get it reconnected...LOL...For future reference, the service manual has a note in the security system section which says....

Always disarm the vehicle by turning the IGN ON with the fob
present before removing or disconnecting the battery. This
prevents the siren (if installed) from activating.

i hear people say that all the time.  i don't understand what is a pita about it.  can't get much more simpler than it is and still have a security system.

Much better to have the alarm system and never need it than not to have one and walk outside and discover your bike is missing.

Just more trouble than it's worth to me. Always have to have the fob present just to move the bike. Sometimes I will be out in the garage working on something and the bike might be in my way. I don't carry the fob on me at all times. So I then have to go get it just to simply push it a few feet. The alarm annoys my neighbors too. If I want to steal your bike, that alarm is not going to stop me...It's just a nuisance. Thats my opinion. If you like your , great.

Concur about moving around in the garage. I have a couple of engines that I'm working on and I've forgotten a couple of times about the FOB and tried to move my bike and get the warning chirps. Now I make a habit of just carrying it with me whenever I go out to work, just in case. The manual does have a procedure for pulling the system off for replacement but doesn't go into detail on how the bike's other systems would react without it. Probably nothing at all but it does tap into the lighting.

The siren is a separate optional item; not all bikes with a security system get a siren, but the CVO's come standard with one.  If you don't like the siren, I'm going to guess you can disconnect the siren and the rest of the security system will work just like it does on all those bikes that don't come with one.  In other words, the starter and fuel injection/ignition will still be disabled, but you won't have to listen to that noise every time you move the bike in the garage.  Check the shop manual.

I agree that if someone had the time to steal it they could. However, once I hear the alarm sounding, it's going to be really tough getting it out of the garage under a barrage of gun fire.  It's one thing to steal while things are quiet, totally different when there's an siren sounding.    :rifle:

whenever i'm in the garage and find i have to move the bike, it takes 10 seconds to punch in the override code.  and like grc mentioned, you could unplug the siren and then you would permanently have no noise, just blinking lights.......

and you could probably find someone who would pay $50 or so for that siren.

You can program your system so it is "chirpless". The steps are in the manual.
