FXDSE Fuel Gauge Failure ?
« on: January 28, 2009, 04:51:13 PM »

Bonjour !

I'm right now experimenting a fuel gauge failure on my '07 FXDSE : All of a sudden, the "mirror" fuel gauge just doesn't "light" anymore (all LED's totally switched off, even the "red" fuel pump)...and the amber "low fuel level" is permanently on ( shall I precise that this came out with my tank almost full ). I have checked the connectors...seems OK.. mileage of my bike is only 800 miles. :nixweiss:

Thanks for your help !  :)

Ride safe and have fun

An '07 with only 800 miles on it?  :nixweiss:  Mechanical devices that sit tend to deteriate (fall apart, rot, stop working).  :'(  You need to ride that puppy more (alot more).  ;D  Then it will keep working!  :2vrolijk_21:

understand your surprise about mileage... :-\ the fact is that my dealer bought it for himself, but for some reason, never used it... so I bought it october 08, with zero miles... for sure, it's not good a mechanic staying still for months... but it looks alright and that gauge failed off..if it is the gauge.. don't know yet.. anyway the dealer will check and hopefully solve the issue during the "1000 miles" check-up... but if I could simply share with somebody who had to face that problem one day, it will help me to understand..
 ride safe  ;)

mine have gone out twice, the gauge sits in a plastic cup that despite a rubber gasket retains moisture which corrodes the circuit board, i sealed mine with blue rtv after the first failure and the cup was dry at the second failure but after removing the circuit board the top of it was corroded, condensation ? dealer paid for first one although electronics only have a 90 day warranty. i am still working on cure for mine, right now the cure is watch my milage.

Thanks guys for all this info..
My Gauge has been changed under warranty... It's true that when it's been removed, condensated water was lying in there... I'm not very confident in the reliability of this gauge timewise... well,.. let's ride and I'll see.

Maybe coating the board in an epoxy to keep the moisture out?  Spray it with a clear coat?
