Hey Guys,
OK where did you guys hide the part numbers for the LED License Plate Frames. I've seen them a million times and now that I'm looking to order I can't seem to find them. Thanks for the help.

It's the 4 point detachable mounting bracket.

A small round medallion works good to cover the indentation on the fender. I used the se oval medallion, but you have to manlipulate it to fit the contour of the fender. I heated it up with a hair dryer ( not mine my wifes), wrapped it in a rag, set it on my vise so there was a gap under it, used a 2" socket on edge and a rubber mallet pounded softly, reheated, repeated 2-3 times until I got it right. Had a couple of beers, then had the confidence to stick it on centered and level. Looks better than factory.

How did you guys remove the tail light reflector? Did you simply cut it of? If so, with what, and how did you ensure you didn't sh$t up you paint job?

Now that it's done, let me say two things:
1) This was an absolute pain in the arss, requiring the patients of Jobe.
2) I am very happy with the results.

Heavy Breather is the real deal, Jim did some dyno work early on that showed HP improvement vs stock.
There was a breather bolt issues, but I believe that issue has been resolved in a prior thread.

state doesnt say for sure. that is ware dealer automaticlly puts them. am going to move it to rear peg mount.

There was a breather bolt issues, but I believe that issue has been resolved in a prior thread.
The bolt issue is you have to get the breather bolts with the holes in them that go on a regular 09 touring bike. The ones for the SERG breather are to short. These are the bolts that go into the heads.

Here is a pic of the frame install I did. I did mine by drilling the plate frame, not the fender. I was able then to use the plug cover under the back fender.

The Gods were against me this morning as I tried to install the curved plate 9182 on my road glide. I'm defeated - first the drill press my brother let me use is lame, not very good. I ended up with a gap on both sides of the backing plate the size of a small state - to large for even a washer to fix. Then I finally got the backing plate secured to the fender (don't ask) only to strip one of the bolts (4) and the socket it screws into that would hold down the plate and LED cover.
I just stopped and put the bike back in the garage. I ended up ordering a whole new frame - 9182 this morning from Kuryackyn after calling all of the local distributors in Mass, RI and NH, hoping they had one. I did fab a nice quick detatch wiring harness so that I can take the plate off / on without problem but that was my only victory of the day.
Well, that's how my morning went today. Beleive it or not, I'm not even in the mood to ride.

Well, I pulled myself up by the boot straps and went at it again this morning and have been blessed by the Gods. I took a trip to Home Depot last night and picked up several different SS screws and a tap to re-thread the stripped socket on the backing plate. I realized during this process how much machining debris was left in each socket, which explains why I was having such a hard time screwing in the bolt I stripped and the other 3 bolts. I cleaned each of the backing plate sockets with the tap, used new SS screws and viola - 9182 is on.
Iglide - thanks for your offer. After thinking it through for a while and realizing its only bolts and stripped threads, other options began to surface.
Once my wife tells me what she did with the digital camera, I'll take pictures.
Just wanted to give this update.

Getting the nuts off was not to bad. However holding the new plate frame, and trying to start the new bolts into the nuts on the factory back plate was hell. I really needed three hands or more.
Behind the fender everything is still factory. I put the plug from the fatory plate light onto the new one.

It doesn't really matters if you drill the fender. If by any chance you ever want to go stock again, the stock frame covers it all. Just .02 centavos. Let's Roll

I drilled my rear fender also and agree. Let the restoration shop worry about the hidden holes in 2050! Let's keep Rolling! :2vrolijk_21:

Please accept my apology for the comment regarding drilling the rear fender. That method does provide a cleaner look.
At times I engage the keyboard, before brain.... I will be more considerate in the future.

Those of you that drilled your fender, did you retain the wire housing box on the back side of the fender?

I didn't, I just spliced the OEM plug in to the wire from the frame and plugged it in. shrink tapped and ziptie. Oh ya, solder

I drilled my fender and I retained the inside bracket, cover and stock wiring connector. I like the looks of the frame being mounted higher on the fender. I covered the fender dimple with a 1999 FLHRCI tank emblem and it looks sweet!

I drilled the fender and also drilled the inside housing. The first installed I did , I didn't used the inside housing under the fender. I just cut the plug from the original mount and solder it to the led lights. Then mounted it. But I thought about it and there is that big hole in the fender. So I thought if I rode through some water or rain then all that dirty would go inside the plate housing. So I took it apart and installed the inside housing, that's when I had to drill 2 holes in it to get it to fit. Maybe it was over kill but, oh well I had the time and wanted to tinker. Let's Roll

Would any of you that drilled your backing plate (not the fender) be so kind as to post a picture of it with out the licence plate.

Drilling the fender is no big issue really. If you are worried about corrosion you can touch up around the drilled hole with any paint...it gets covered and you will probably never remove it again. Lay masking tape down first and position the plate so both the top wire hole and bottom dimple are covered. Horizontal level is the most important issue. I also put a rubber grommet in the wire hole to prevent chafing and it looks nicer from the top looking down. Use some thin rubber instead of the thick spacer that comes with the plate. An old inner tube will work if you cut it to the same size. This gives a more compact look and helps hide things. The inside cover will still fit with one of the existing bolts. :2vrolijk_21:

I am not worried about drilling the fender. I did drill the plate to line up with the stock screws.
My concern was slotting out the holes. It appears if I do that. That I would only be holding the plate on with half the bolt and washer.
My other question is for those that drilled the fender in the way to cover the hole and the fender indent. Did you drill all three holes?
Two holes facing up or down?

Just use masking tape first and lay the frame in position with the led lamp at the top. Mark the three holes and drill. Be sure to have the frame perfectly level. If you don't get it spot on you can file the holes a bit to get it strait. The inner shield can be drilled to the same hole spacing off the bike and be easily installed to protect against debree and splash. :2vrolijk_21:

I drilled the fender and reused the inside support and the little plastic wire protector, Pulled the pins from the male HD connector and soldered the Kurakyn wires then reassembled the plug. If you don't want to take the end off the original HD lamp you can buy one for a few bucks at the HD dealer along with the pins you will need.
All of this took me over an hour, biggest job was NEATLY notching the Kurakyn backing plate to clear the bolts that hold the inner support, had to do this to make the whole thing sit as close to the fender as possible. The rest was easy.
Whoever did this first, THANK YOU for the suggestion.

Whenever I mounted mine, I laid the plate bracket on the fender, carefully positioning it like I wanted it, and marked all the holes. I chucked up a sharp 1/4" drill bit in the cordless Milwaukee drill, got it turning wide open, walked up and punched the holes in it right quick w/o looking twice. The fender might rust someday, but it would last longer than the 110 engine anyhow. :nixweiss:

It is a C&C. Front to back is the same as the stock seat, it does make you sit a little taller, about an inch or so. I`m 6.1. Not a lot of miles on it yet, but so far i like it. Will let everyone know how it is on a long ride after my trip at the end of July, about five to six thousand miles. And here is one with the back rest on.

How good does the lights light up the tag at night? In NC law says have to be able to see it clearly at 50 feet. And we also cant have cover that covers state name or stickers any. Thinking about putting one on mine. Thanks

Next thing is micro chips and GPS tracking with self destruct is you exceed 65mph. What kind of bone head info is on those things that isn't already in the states computer system? Oh ya... government bone heads! Jeeez any how... :drink:

I am looking for a way to bend the SE medallion to match the contour of my fender. 8 U Up used a 2" socket, whick i don't have. any advice would be appreciated.

This worked great. It's fairing molding and have about 2" extra.

Point of NO return. I put the back plate on to hold the wires behind the plate.

The finished product. I also bought chrome screws for the plate instead of the SS screws that came with the kit. I did fix the right side molding after this picture. The license plate pushed the molding out a little. all good now.

The molding also has an adhesive in the channel. With the molding you have a little more ability to cover the top and bottom areas. Just take your time and know you will be drilling through the bottom brace also. Drill in the direction the mounting screws are going to go in. It's not as bad as you would think.

Just ordered the frame & molding from Chicago HD (along with all the parts for making the passenger pegs hwy pegs and adding floorboards... that was a quick $1K!). THanks for the detailed instructions. Got a cool idea for something to cover the hole, just gotta see if it'll work around the curve. Ordering an SE medallion just in case it doesn't work.

You can mount the plate mounting bracket so that only a tiny bit of the dimple at the bottom shows and only if you get down near the ground to look at it, so in other words it doesn't show to the average person. Or you can raise the plate up to better cover the hole in the fender (where the wires go through) and then the bottom dimple is exposed. I just mounted mine so that the top hole is covered and the bottom dimple is almost covered, but from a normal viewing angle it appears covered.

It's because he used the molding and mounted the frame right to the fender without using the mounting plate. If you use the mounting plate that come in the kit, that when you see the hole on top or dimple on bottom.

I measured 57 times... screwed up too many things... lol
Got the holes drilled... but of course the screws are too short to use without the mounting bracket, so I had to go find longer ones. For now I just got the cheap ones that have the ABS chrome plasitic covers, until I've got more time to find something better. Where did you get your chrome screws?
And of I have an event to go to tonight, so now the project is left 1/2 complete until tomorrow.

Nice looking frames... might go nicely on some bikes, but no way I'd put it on my 09 SERG... wouldn't want to take away from the clean look of the current lighting.

All right, here's mine... I chose to mount mine higher, and covered the dimple with the front side of a military challenge coin I had made. Since my SERG was my making Chief Master Sergeant (E9) gift to myself, I figured it was a fitting addition.

I used a kit of plate screws with the plastic attachments to snap on the chrome ABS plastic covers over them... not sure if I'll stick with them, but they work for now!
Off to finally get rid of the rest of the reflectors, and then decide if I'm motivated enough to take on the rear peg for floorboard conversion...

Also got my rear pegs swapped out for floorboards, and put the pegs up on the 360 degree highway peg mounts. Gotta love a productive weekend!
