A group of the Nor Cal members showed up yesterday for one of the most exciting rides we've done. Thanks to Chuck for putting this together! :2vrolijk_21:
This route led us over 600 twists and turns in less than 35 miles (the first half of the ride) but we continued on for 148 miles of a great ride. Many bridges, rivers, lakes and dams we saw it all.....
Holly (Hogable) on her Dyna....
-
and Jon and Don.....can we get this thin going.....
-
Chuck's leader of the pack on this ride.....

Out on the freeway, heading up to Colfax and the begining of this journey......

-
Mosquito Ridge Rd. did not disapoint, right from the start....
-
The road is one car wide but two direction so you never knew what, if anything, was around the next curve or bend. Thankfully, there was very little traffic on this road.
And surprisingly, the roads were very well maintained. :2vrolijk_21:
-
passed more than a few of these signs...
-
that turned out to be complete switchbacks....
-
...
-
our first river crossing...
-
..
-
and these signs indicate 5 miles that often turned out to be 10, 15 and 20 miles.....
-
quick, change to the Nikon.....
Surprisingly, they had some very nice bridges....
-
and one or two that may need a little maintenance...
-
.
-
.
-
.
-
incredable views in all directions......some staight up and some straight down....
-
passed through little mining communities...
-
The first half of the pack disappeared but this sign says Foresthill to the right at the fork in the road.
-
STOP!!! STOP!!! I wanna go! Great pics my kind of ride!
-
100' around the curve we're at the fork in the road and the sign says Foresthill up the left fork..... :nixweiss: O.K. which way did they go????? :nixweiss: :nixweiss:
-
very well maintained "primative road"..... :2vrolijk_21:
-
.
-
O.K. we found em.....
-
million dollar views......
-
and another million dollar view... ???
-
and million dollar smiles....
-
a rainbow of LED tailights.....
-
.
-
Somebody's gotta do it......
-
and we're off again...
-
and in some places the road actually got two lanes wide... :o
-
..
-
must be directed at BP... :nixweiss:

-
it's a long way down baby!

America's best kept secret. All of this is within 50 miles of my home and I never even knew this road existed. Thanks a bunch Chuck.....for bringing us along.
This ride should be included in the next Western CVO Owner's GTG! :2vrolijk_21: Coupled with Lake Tahoe or Yosemite.....world class! :2vrolijk_21:

What are you talking about? I've never noticed.....as far as I know they're just regular tour pack hinges. I'm sure you can get them via any dealership. :nixweiss:
-
Regular? :D
When billet can be had.. ;D
-
Some nice shots JC, and a great looking group to boot! As far as the hinges, I think Gary has some dusty ones in his garage somewhere as well. :huepfenjump3: :beatdeadhorse:

Wow!! Looked like another great trip!

I don't think so but I'll check. Thanks for putting together a great ride through a great area of Cali. Never ridden through that area... now I have to find time to go back. This site not only helps me spend money, it's also great for meeting new friends and finding great new places to ride.
-
You guys in No Cal are spoiled. So many good roads and pretty views. Was out there recently and it is gorgeous. Enjoy it.
-
Hi all, Chuck thanks for the great ride, I also had never been on any of those roads..... So close to home we really are blessed to live in an area we can ride year round. Deffinatly looking forward to that ride again. The water was really looking inviting. JC thanks for all the great photos..... I love being able to live the ride again through your photos. Just really a great day, just wish my girl could have been with me. She would have loved it also....... :2vrolijk_21: Jon

Clockwise Chuck (back to us), Holly, JC, Barbara, Jerry, Blazo.
Shade where there are benjo's nearby is good.

Jon and Michael.

John and Kim.
The ride home for John and Kim got bad when their bike got a flat tire right at Hwy-50's I-5 off ramp. This is the spot where Blazo and Jerry n Barb continued west on 50 and John n Kim and I were to exit to I-5 South. John n Kim were having a bike issue and I was going to ride with them since we were both going South.
John n Kim and I were maneuvering to exit when John n Kim quickly slowed down and moved into the I-5 North lane. I shot right past them and moved into the I-5 South lane and I kept going with the exiting traffic wondering WTF? why are they going North. I kept looking to see if they went to the shoulder but didn't see them anywhere. I assumed they had a direction they were going that I didn't know about. I slowed and waited and they never showed. My assumptions were wrong and I continued South on I-5 not realizing they had gotten a flat. I knew the original issue with the bike should not have disabled the bike. I knew they were going to Hwy-12 but didn't know where Hwy-12 was.
The nearest exit off I-5 was 1.5 miles and I questioned whether to get off and go back to Hwy-50 to make sure they were okay. I second guessed myself by replaying their moving over to the I-5 Northbound lane and I continued on. In hindsight I can replay the events and reevaluate the whole situation. John n Kim's strange actions (moving abruptly into the I-5 North lane) should have raised a flag to me that they were having a problem. I couldn't stop and back up but I could have taken the nearest exit and backtracked to Hwy-50 until I either located them or at least been assured they weren't stranded on the road. Even if I could do nothing to help I should have located them and let them tell me they were okay or not okay. A person riding with others who doesn't do this basic expectation is either a selfish or ignorant azzhole.
I keep questioning myself as to why I did this because I don't like being an azzhole.
John n Kim, I want to sincerely apologize for not being there for you two. I hope to someday prove to you that I am not normally inconsiderate and I owe it to myself and others to work harder to pay it forward for other's in need.
After getting home I called JC to let him know I made it okay and told him about the incident. That is how I found out that John n Kim had gotten a flat. JC and Terrie came to John n Kim's aid. They trailered them home and were on their way to dinner when I called. At least we all agreed to what an ass I was for not coming back. Good job JC and Terrie for helping them home!
-
Chuck being a proud "leader of the pack".
-
Everybody along with Holly and Barbara were enjoying meeting each other during the break after the first part of the ride.
-

-
Jon will be 71 when his daughter turns 18. What a braggart.
-
Blazo? My guess is he sets the curves ablaze from the sparks flying from his floorboards is where the name comes from? Giving an aggressive rider a Road Glide is like giving a pyromaniac napalm!
-
John enjoys getting riders together and knows many NorCal routes, including places to stop. He can sometimes get up to 50 people to ride. He was talking about a wine country (Silverado area) ride in near future if anybody is interested.
-
Another great rider! Until next time Holly.
-
FOBs can be a pain when they are in the back pocket and when they are not in the back pocket.
-
It's always good to ride with Michael. Everybody has something fun to tell we can all relate to. Not reading directions, manuals, maps, exploring new things, having an adventure when possible.
-
Sun protection for JC. Thanks for the great photos JC. JC has great photos but again a photo just can't really capture the beauty of the Valleys with their flowing rivers that a rider who pauses to observe can.
Hey what's that yellow thingy driving by?
-
Michael, Whatsa matta u?
-
JC looking all protected for interstellar exploration at French Meadows Reservoir.
-
There is hardly any traffic is why we keep playing in the road.
-
Barb stretching, and I waited for Jerry to finish his yawn is why he is smiling.
-
Everybody familiar with NorCal seemed amazed that a road like this was hidden back here and what other secrets may be here in NorCal that we don't know about.
Good job Chuck on introducing the NorCal veterans and novices to such a beautiful place having an extraordinary ride!
-

Great quote! Anybody got a match? I was wondering why you and John slowed down so far before the exit to 5. Of course, by that time, Jerry and I were already on the split to 80 so we kept going. I called John later that night and heard about the episode. JC is quite a stand-up guy, above and beyond on this one!

Let me just say no one really knew what happened to Kim and I when it happened. Who would have thought to top off the day I would get a rear tire flat on the interstate in 5 lanes of traffic. Thought my day hit a low point when I lost my rear brake and HD didn't have the replacement part for the brake line. All that after riding the bike down off those hills and twisters with just a front brake and clutch control. :) Not a good day for us but luck was on our side. However we got outstanding support from JC, Terrie and Mike that helped us out and got us home!!! Can't thank you guys enough, owe you big time. There is not much anyone could have done because of where we broke down - no shoulders etc... That said all is good, bike will be back up and running by the weekend and I will probably be off to another ride somewhere Saturday for a few hours to chill.
BTW - Kim and I have some pictures to post, but I must say it is a pretty painful process. looks like we need to compress them before posting, then do it individually. This site only works for friendly uses, since it is surely not user friendly. I may post a thread to find out if anyone else sees this issue. can't believe it is that tough to do.
Look forward to more rides with the NoCal group.
BTW - don't beat yourself up too bad leave a little for us when we see you next!! :)
-
Terrie and I are going to head up to Mosquito Ridge on Sunday......gonna take her with me to see what we missed. :)
-
JC what a great ride that must have been,... pics came out great.. i Can't promise you will see that kind of scenery when you come to the Keys.. looking forward to it anyway,, thanks for sharing and ride safe. :2vrolijk_21:

All right...it is time for me to get serious regarding this event...loved it last year...And now with the thought of Mosquito Ridge Road being only 83 miles away!
Of course I would want to perform "the tour" of our ladies but earlier I am thinking of the Mosquito Ridge Road. Any takers?
I will determine my commitment by the end of July but for now I am interested in the attendance from site members to Street Vibrations.
Thanks...but the way I have shared this road with a number of East Coast Riders and they did not believe it until I shared your photos...
-
If Terrie and I make it up to Street Vibrations, we'll be in the car. Our bikes will be on their way to the east coast. Oh yea, and remember, you've got reservations in Key West on Oct. 2. :2vrolijk_21:
Several couples are headed back up to Mosquito Ridge for seconds, this weekend. :2vrolijk_21:
-
Still waiting the outcome on my bike. But we will take the car again if we have to cause I want to have a good time after all this mess. :2vrolijk_21:

I did not forget...if I made it to SV it would be a fly and rent outing like last time...

I think I have to move to California..That scenery is just amazing to me. :drink:
