Title: Weather
Post by: ccr on December 07, 2006, 01:58:05 PM
:)  Absolutely unbelievable.  I am sitting here building web pages and in between positing, looking over here too.  I see that at the top of the forum is the weather announcement and right now, where I live it is 67 degrees outside.  Can you believe it?   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

 [smiley=oops.gif]   :-[  Sorry!

Was not trying to rub it in.  I don't live in Sunny FL, TX or AZ or anything, so for it to be almost 70 degrees in VA in December, I am thinking is not common.  I picked my bike up from the dealer 50 miles from here last night and rode home at 48 degrees.  I had on underwear and a couple of layers, of course, and my wonderful when working heated grips, but really........ big difference here.  The weatherman did promise that it would be just above freezing tomorrow morning so the CA folks will be able to laugh at me then.

Yeah, it's on the way Mrs.  Here in Memphis it's a balmy 32 degrees with a 15 mph wind.  But the sun is shining. [smiley=orange.gif]

I've got a Riders Edge class this weekend and it is forecast to be 22 degrees Sat morning at 7:30 am when we start on the range.  I must be outta my mind.   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  Maybe the students won't show.

Oh My! Now I am really shocked. I just looked at the top of the site and it only 1 and 1/2 hours from my first post and it is already 55 degrees.  What is up?   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Jerry, I nominate you for sainthood.  [smiley=santa2.gif]
If you get a full class of students though at those temps, you know you will have a great bunch of riders at the end of the day. We have taken a couple of the Experienced rider classes in the rain, and my husband once took in with two inches of snow on the road, but none of those times was the temps extreme.  In VA they don't have classes in Dec-Mar.  But the experience of pushing your own bike like the instructors have you do in these classes in bad weather, help to build the confidence in yourself so your not scared when you encounter these events on a normal out cruising kind of ride.  So that why I am so appreciative of you and people like you willing to freeze your unmentionables off so that we can all have better riding brothers and sisters because of it.  [smiley=santa3.gif]

25 f. here 15 miles from Lake Ontario but ridings over with no matter the temp. Had enough snow for the town guys to get out & spread salt over every piece of blacktop in sight.Got their overtime in for X-mas $$$$$$$  Can't hate 'em for that.

I took the rider's safety course in February '04 and it was 20 degrees every morning and got up to maybe 40 by the afternoon. Froze our butts off - or at least I did [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

It is supposed to get to about 50 on Sat.  I certainly hope so but it'll be cold going starting out.

How do the mountains of Western NC sound for year round instead ULTRA? I ain't Rockerfeller y'know. It would be nice to have two homes. Living in NYC, I'm lucky to have one. But the one I do have will now allow me to retire anywhere I want to except here or CA. I just love the area around the Smokey's and Blue Ridge. I recall reading somewhere about a place called Maggie Valley. Anyone ever heard of it? 8-)

BTW, I do ride year round here. Underware (for you Candy) until freezing temps and then chaps also. No snow or ice though (unless I'm caught in it). So I could deal with a little colder winters. Fl is too hot and humid. Hey, that's an idea. A poll to locate the perfect retirement location. :o I feel a new thread coming on.

I'm w/ a lotta y'all w/ the western Carolinas, Tenn., Va. mountains. Too bad most are helmet law states. I get a thrill every time I visit. But, I'm still blown away by our trip out west a couple of years ago. Southwestern Colorado was stunning and warm. That's now in our mix for retirement.

I love it out there too, but isn't SW Co cold and snowy in winter. Not as bad as northern, but they still get "real" winter. I've never been there in winter. Also, my problem with that whole area is where it's warm in winter, it's way too hot in the summer. Az was on the list too. Don't know if I can handle the summer heat in the SW. If I'm wrong, please let me know. We're racking our brains to find the perfect spot. Not too hot or humid in summer, not too cold in winter (a little snow's OK, as long as it's gone the next day). I've been to just about every state in my travels, but my trips are usually spring, summer or fall. Not in a big city, but maybe near a small one. Gorgeous views everywhere. Great roads a must! Could be land locked. Don't need the oceans (can't ride in them). Anyone know where this place is?

I said I wasn't starting a new thread, but I got sucked into asking here. Why not.

Helen,
I don't know about perfection but that sounds pretty good to me, it was down to 18 one day this week with snow showers and with the wind chill down to -2, and of course that was the day I had scheduled to work outside. [smiley=nervous.gif]

Enjoy the great temps!

Ed, I have know idea abot snow showers never been in one but I don't think it would be that great all the time but I should at least once experience it.
I went for a little ride today but the traffic was really bad the weather was great. Came home to stay safe and sound. This time of year here is just terrible lots of bad drivers out.

MrsWe,
Sounds like you're having an incredible late Fall, hope it continues for you.  Here in sunny [smiley=nixweiss.gif] cloudy British Columbia it's a little cooler.  The thing about Vancouver Island, there will always be a day or two or three that we can ride throughout the winter months.

HarleyBee, I lived quite a few years in Vancouver, BC and the picture you showed with the light showers ..............  That is what I remember the most.  Now I know it never rained really hard, but man o man, it rained a lot.  Never gets really cold or really hot, just a lot of water in the air.  Never stopped me from getting out in it and having a great time, but ..............

I miss living in the Pacific North West.    But for now, this is where my home is and I am going to love the heck out of it.
