I haven't looked but check Wild 1's. They make Apes and they also make Apes for Springers. Hoist! 8)

do you think you can go to 10" apes and not replace throttle/clutch cables?
what about the internally routed wiring from the controls?
I wanted to go with apes too but keep talking myself out of it due to ridiculous costs of all the parts I'd need to buy
please let us know how this works out
thanks

I know that my other bikes I have had, I put Wideglide bars on without changing cables etc.  I did not take into account the typical wider stance of the Springer front end.

The other thing I worry about is the hydraulic clutch.  With this, I assume some bars wont work that are fat??

Oh well...I will keep plugging...

Here ya go. http://store02.prostores.com/servlet/bikerhaven/Detail?no=329 Cheers!

Thanks for the lead, but the bars are a solid size...and dont need indented at the base for the riser.

I have seen my problems are simple :)  As always

I have hydraulic clutch.  I am not sure if I need a special bar to do so.

The risers are solid size, so no indentation for the risers

Let me know what you guys think....

Shodan, check out Wild 1's.  http://www.wild1inc.com/handlebars.html  P/N WO514, 9.5" Springer Apes. You might get lucky with cables, lines, and wiring. They're predrilled and accept the Hyd Clutch Master. I'm putting the 10" Baby Apes on my SERK and taking my chances on these things. If they're not long enough, then I'll get longer stuff. You have a decent chance of these making it on the 9.5's. Hoist! 8)

I'm probably wrong - but  - I don't think the house of handlebars ones are going to fit
they go back to 1" where the risers are and the new FXSTSSE is a constant 1.25" all the way along the bottom
check before you order

Yup.  That has been one of the issues I have come up with.

I found a few, but think I have decided to wait to change due to the sheer volume of what all I would have to change.  I just got my detachable windshield mount, and see that it disappears in with the springs which is a nice touch.

Thanks for all the input.

Turns out the 2007 Dyna Wide Glide uses  1 1/4 inch bars and rises with it's "apes"  a Harley Wide Glide handlebar wire set should fit
for clutch and throttle it looks like a set off of a 2007 Road King or Glide (CVO) would be in the Diamond braid and be long enough
I was just up at South East Harley and spent a few minutes going over the stats !!

Thanks Beer -

I think I have decided to keep it the way it is for now....I got the wiring down pat, but I was thinking the riser is about 1 inch wider, not allowing me to use the Dyna bars....I got a set on order just in case....

I will let you guys know.

Thanks for the link, I had forgotten about that place.  They have a fat Knuckle bar for springers that looks interesting.

The spacing between the risers is wider on the springers.  I have ran into the same problem looking for a different bar.  I don't really care for the "beach" bar HD offers.

I wasn't really looking for a fat bar just something with a different grip angle.  The FLSTSC has a really annoying bend that really works against you without the windshield installed.

I'm considering changing the risers to get a little more pullback, the problem is finding risers that pullback and will fit a 1.25" handlebar!

right now I'm looking at the '04 SE Deuce risers and the riser stud kit to adapt "standard" risers to fit a springer.
the stock FXSTSSE risers are 5" and the SE Deuce risers are 6.5" with about a 2.50" pullback, just need to see if I have enought slack in the internal wiring to make it work. The brake, clutch and throttle cables should be fine.
The only other issue may be clearance between the risers and fuel tank when the forks are turned all the way to one side.... :2vrolijk_21:

Wild 1 makes an adapter to allow their 1" bar fit on Harley's 1.25" riser. Very neat and simple piece.  www.wild1inc.com

The W1's are 1.25" bars, turned down at the clamp area, for 1" riser. You have to replace the risers to standard risers. On a SERK, you'd replace with the 1" tall risers and a solid riser clamp. Hoist! 8)

actually Wild 1 has a 2 piece adapter that goes over their bar and increases the bar to 1.25 and it fits in the stock CVO riser

UPDATE..........

SE Deuce risers won't work!
I bought a set of SE Deuce risers and an adapter stud kit that adapts standard risers to fit a springer front end, but It seems that the SE Springer risers are unique to the SE Springer!

the riser has a "spacer" that sits between the actual riser and the top plate of the forks, the "spacer" screws into the forks, and has a stud that the riser slips over, the problem is that the threaded hole in the forks where the "spacer" screws into the fork is a bigger diameter than any other springer fork!

there are no pullback risers available to fit this front end.
so right now, the only way to get more pullback is to change the handlebars, and I'm not going through all that expense for a few inches of pullback.
unless beerman has success with the wide glide setup and it's not too expensive................

It doesn't' look like the Wide Glide HD bars will work either
Apparently, the width at the risers is so much more on the Springers that the Wide Glide bars are too narrow at the base to bolt up. That, and the "knurling" will be off as well.
Simple chit like this is always intersting !!!!
If you wanted to run Big Block Chevy valves in your Buell---THAT we could figure out but Ape Hangers on a Springer - that's a tough one !!!
Obviously - someone with $1500 to throw at this issue will indeed get it done - but I'm not that guy

Dang ... glad I read this.  I was contemplating going with mini apes ... I will wait until someone does it succesfully and see what all they had to go through.  Before I took deliver over a year ago, I thought about getting some of those billy lane risers with the bullet cartridge head embeddee in them, but he doesn't make any 1.25" so I gave that idea up.

Duece you seem like the wealthy type - I think you should do whatever it takes to make it work and let the rest of us copy you !!
I mean New Jersey?? Houses there cost a million !! What could the bars cost ?
Have a set of risers and bars hand made ( have them make a couple sets while they're at it)

Resurecting an old thread! :pineapple:

Ok,

I bought a set of WideGlide 1 1/4" mini ape handlebars.
yes, the knurling is offset, but because we have the mini tach in the middle of the risers you don't really notice it. :2vrolijk_21:
and they bolted up just fine for me.

my next issue is the hydraulic clutch master clyinder.....
since the SE bars are tapered at the ends, my hydraulic clutch will not bolt up to the wideglide bars! :o

solution??????
the clutch master clyinders on the '09 SE springer and Fatbob have been redesigned.
they now resemble the brake master clyinder and have the nesassary clearance for standard 1 1/4" handlebars!  :bananarock:

the price of the revised clutch reservoir is $150.00 :2vrolijk_21:

The reason I'm going with the '07 wideglide bars is because I don't like the center width of every other mini ape out there, the smallest ones I found were 10" at the center, and that looks like crap on the narrow springer front end.

all I need now is a wire extension kit and some new cables! ;D

and NO, Beerman, I'm not wealthy by ANY means......
this bar swap IS my winter project, I can't afford to buy everything all at once, I will be buying a few pieces here and there over the winter to complete it! :2vrolijk_21:

Duece, you're absolutely right about most apes being too wide at the base for a Springer. That is one of the issues I have with the black apes rheiner put on his bike. Way too wide at the base.

actually Wild 1 has a 2 piece adapter that goes over their bar and increases the bar to 1.25 and it fits in the stock CVO riser

Has anybody tried these adapters?  I bought new risers but I would rather go with the stock risers with the 12.5" apes that I have.

I have the same problem  ,want the bars a little higher without changing cables, wiring, etc. Think I am going to machine a 1" {alum} spacer for my risers. After you polish it,you won't notice it.  ????? Could put it between the riser and the spacer. ??????

Duece you seem like the wealthy type - I think you should do whatever it takes to make it work and let the rest of us copy you !!
I mean New Jersey?? Houses there cost a million !! What could the bars cost ?
Have a set of risers and bars hand made ( have them make a couple sets while they're at it)
-Beerman

Million???  that's pocket change!  There are multi million dollar houses here! :2vrolijk_21:
although, I don't live in anything CLOSE to costing even a million........

I guess there are no million dollar houses in Ohio huh????    ::)  just a bunch of double wide trailers? :bananarock:

I just received my new hydraulic clutch reservoir today.
I bolted it onto the new wideglide bars and it fits perfectly, just like the brake reservior!

I'm going to order the new cables this week, I think I know how long the new cables need to be but I just want to double check.
what is the best way to measure for the new cables?????

Cables ordered. :2vrolijk_21:

I went with the Magnum Sterling Chromite II cables.

I ordered:

48" for the front brake.
66" for the Hydraulic clutch.
32.5" for the Throttle/ Idle cables.

the bars are on, here are a few pics!

I think the throttle/idle cables are a little short, but they work just fine, they don't bind when turned to the left...
I'm going to call Magnum and see if I can return them for longer ones.

other than that, the bars are PERFECT!  (for me) :2vrolijk_21:
