2021 Boom GTS, WHIM, and headsets - how do I?
« on: July 15, 2021, 02:26:16 PM »

I recently bought a 2021 CVO with GTS and WHIM.  I've gone though the Boom Audio 30K Bluetooth headset install several times now, but am missing something.  I can not get the bike's radio and phone sound to come out of the Harley branded 30K headset that came with the bike.  Appreciate any thoughts or help re what is going on.

I have linked the 30K headset to the bike through the wireless headset pairing, and alternately directly to my Android phone via bluetooth.  The 30K shows that it is properly paired to the bike on the CVO dash screen.  And alternately, I can use the 30K as a bluetooth headset for sound and phone directly with my Android.  But the bike will not play sound or phone audio out through the 30K.

I have gone into the GTS menus and transferred sound from the bike speakers to the headset.  Sound turns off from the bike speakers but does not shift to the 30K headset.

Alternately, I have paired my Aeropex bluetooth headset directly to the bike.  I can play music and phone audio out of the Boom GTS through the Aeropex headset.

So, I know my 30K audio works, since it will work as a wireless headset from my Android phone.  And, I know the bike will transfer music and phone to a bluetooth headset, since I can use a third-party headset just fine.

Any thoughts as to why I can't get my Harley branded 30K headset to play music and phone audio from the bike through WHIM?

Thanks for any thoughts!

Do not pair the phone to the headset. Your pairing of the headset to the bike is correct. Delete the pairing of the headset to the phone and pair the phone to the bike.

Thanks!

And I understand - and am not connecting the 30K to the WHIM and my Android at the same time.

I tried the 30K to the Android just to see if the 30K was working.  (Sena actually recommended this.)  The 30K works fine for music and phone audio when paired directly to an Android.

Alternately, when not paired to the Android, I can pair the 30K with my CVO - but although it pairs, and the CVO tries to transfer from speakers to headset, neither music nor phone audio will come out of my 30K when paired directly with the GTS.

But, I know that the GTS will transfer the audio out, since I can use a different - non-Harley - headset with the GTS through the WHIM.

Do I just have a bad 30K?  or is there something I'm missing?

What procedure are you using to pair the headset to the bike?

Wireless Headset Setup.

I've tried as either Rider or Passenger.  Neither will play audio.

Alternately, I've connected my AfterShokz Aeropex bluetooth as either Rider or Passenger, and both modes will receive music and phone.

In the wireless setup screen where it shows you Rider Enabled/Disabled and Passenger Enabled/Disabled, make sure Rider is on Enabled.  I couldnt get sound through mine either, then I switched that and the radio comes through the headset.

Thank you.  It does shoe Enabled.  I can only pair when  Enabled is selected.

On the other hand, I can not get this 30k headset to update to 3.1 firmware either.  So maybe this headset just has a problem?

I have the exact same issue. I can get a Cardo Packtalk headset to pair and play music but the 30k pairs and connects but no joy hearing music.

I've had a couple calls with Sena and talked completely through troubleshooting a couple times.  No joy

Next step I guess is a trip to the dealer and see if my HD 30k will work with another bike, or if another known-good headset will work with my bike.

And, the mystery continues.

I took the bike and headset in to the Dealer.  They could not get my HD 30K headset to play music on my bike, or another 2021 CVO Road Glide.  And they could not get the other 2021 CVO's 30K headset to play music on my bike, or the other bike.

The Dealer is calling HD.  Something is affecting multiple 2021 CVOs and the HD 30K headsets....

Have you checked for firmware updates for the 30K?

On the 2021’s, a recalibration of the flux capacitor is required. This is a dealer digital reset. Hope this helps. And do not let anyone tell you “they all do that”.

If possible, I have your dealer try the 20s Evo headset.

If possible, I have your dealer try the 20s Evo headset.

I could - but it came with a 30k and I'd kind of like to see the parts that the bike comes with, work together - or HD make corrections.

I already know that other headsets, e.g. my Aeropex and the Tech's aftermarket, will pair and work for audio.

Good thought!

I just tried a radio reset, and no joy.  I guess I'll wait to see what HD has to say.....

I understand.
What I was curious about is that the Sena firmware is intergrated into the WHIM which allows you to change the operational setting of the Sena headset through the GTS.

If the 20s did not work, then I would say the issue is the WHIM….If it did work then I would focus on the 30K firmware being the issue.

Sorry you have to deal with this. I have been using Sena Headsets for years and generally they just work.

Good Luck

I have the same problem with my headset.  Tried updating the software, but as another poster here noted, it won't update.  I had dealer update the WHIM software and that didn't work either.

Yes HD has determined there is a problem, and is working with Sena to figure out a solution.  Will post when I get the fix....

This one is resolved.

With the help of HD and Sena, the Dealer was able to reflash the HD 30K headset to a version of 2.2 that worked.  Voila!  The GTS sound now plays through the WHIM headset on my 2021 Road Glide.

I was then able to update to 3.1 at home with my PC.

Plus, I added Sirius, which seems to also work well.

All seems good now.

According to an email I got from HD, the 3.2 firmware is also supposed to fix this problem with getting music  sound through the 30k, that some users are experiencing.

FWIW, my 30k also seems to buffer audio better with the 3.2 firmware.
