On July 26, 2010 Big John's daughter, Holly Mattson, was being driven to the airport
for a business trip. She was to fly down to the annual Harley Davidson Dealer Show
where she would be representing some lines of H-D licensed products.
A driver, Virginia Ramsey, was fleeing Federal Way Police and ran a red light
at 80+ mph t-boning Holly's car, killing her boyfriend on impact and severly injuring Holly.
Doctors have said that most people receiving either the broken neck or
torn aorta that Holly suffered never survive either injury. That Holly has
survived them both and is not paralyzed is a miracle!
But there is no insurance coverage from any source, and Holly's medical
expenses already total over $250,000, with more to come.
To help, several benefit fundraising events have been scheduled, one of which
is a benefit ride on Sunday, October 3, 2010.
Rider-registration will begin at Destination Harley Davidson in Fife at 9 a.m.,
donations of $10/ rider or passenger are requested. Each registered
participant will receive a raffle ticket good for various drawings during the ride at
Destination Harley Davidson, Northwest Harley Davidson and a
FREE BBQ meal courtesy of Eagle Leather on South Tacoma Way. Additional raffle
tickets may be purchased at 3 for $20. There will also be a dice game rolled
at different stops providing participants 3 chances to win....high total, low
total and a random drawing of those playing but not having won. One card for a $3.00
donation, 2 cards for $5.00.
I'd hope to see 100 or more riders support this event with all proceeds going
to help with Holly's immediate out-of-pocket medical and prescription expenses.
It should be a fun ride with lots of giveaways and a free meal, and all for a
good cause. All brands of bikes (and riders) are welcome, please spread the
word!
By the way, the woman who hit Holly's car, Virginia Ramsey, will be arraigned
on 8 different counts including Murder in the 2nd degree, and Vehicular
assault, on Tuesday, October 5th. It'll be on the nightly news again then.
You can search KOMO-4 and The Kitsap Sun newspaper for "Holly Mattson" for
recent additional news.
Hope to see you on the ride,
I'm attaching a recent photo of Holly and a flyer for a specially-created quilt
that will be raffled off as a separate fund-raising event.
A Pay Pal account has been set up to purchase chances on the H-D T-Shirt Quilt at imgreystone@yahoo.com.
