Here's the one I had back in the Day Not that long a Go 1979 :D

Very Nice!

My first bike is my 09 Springer.  Almost got one 21 years ago, but the owner totaled the bike the day before the deal was finalized.  Then life took over and I didn't revisit the idea until last year.

Not my first.....not even close.  Started on a mini bike, then a Tote Goat, Hodaka, blah, blah, blah.....don't even think I could remember them all when I was a kid.

This is a Pan/Shovel on a Harmon frame with a Harmon front end from the early 70s.

This was my very first bike.  Probably put about 20k miles on it in the pasture behind the house.  Wrecked it several times as well.  Now a friend of mine's son is riding it.

I used to race one of those in 1977, put a Hooker Header on it and still smoked the guys on the 80ccs... Nothin like a four stroke!

This was my first bike in 1972, it cost $200.00. I kept it till 2008 and sold it for $1000.00. This picture was in 2008. I can't keep everything, but I should have kept it.

Its amazing to see so many old rides. I'll post my 46 HD 45 that I found in  a chicken coup.

The old Japanese bikes are awesome.  If you think about it, for the price they are selling for now, and what they cost new, they have appreciated more than any bike made.

First "legal" Motorcycle was a used 1969 Kawasaki H1, second was new 1972 Kaw H1B  Both of these bikes would flip over backwards if u twisted it to full throttle in 1st or 2nd and hold it. At about 4000RPM no matter how hard u tried to use body weight to keeep the front wheel down, it would come up!! Crazy power!!!!

If you think about it, most men old enough to afford and ride HD's in the late 60's early 70's are now dead or unable to ride. Those of us who learned to ride around that time could never have afforded a Harley even if we had wanted one. We learned on the Honda's, Kawasaki's, and Yamaha's. Most of us remember them fondly. I wouldn't mind having an old Kawasaki triple or KZ900 or 1000 in my stable.

I believe the blue bike is a 1971. Kawasaki produced one color per year on the 500 Mach III 1969 white, 1970 Red, 1971 Blue, 1972 Orange, 1973 Green.
The 1971 500 MACH III had a CDI ignition three cylinder two stroke and produced 60 horse power at 7500 rpm. 1/4 mile et of 12.4 top speed 124 mph. It was the fastest production motorcycle made until the 750 HII came out in  1972.

No actual picture, so here is a stock photo - 72 Honda CB500 bought used from a college friend.
My first 3 bikes were CB500, KZ750, Yamaha Roadstar then I finally discovered the Harley Road Glide, a bike that fits me like a glove. Since then I've had '07 FLTR and currently own '09 FLTR (Project Bike) and '11 FLTRUSE.

Honda 50 with the gas tank under the seat! In FL you could ride one this size on the road when you were 15. Top speed: 50 mph WITH the wind. :huepfenlol2:

I think it's great that you still have it in your garage.

Its in my son's garage now (close by) he refuses to give it back since the drive through wedding in Vegas.  :P   Doc

Yeah, I am sure u r right, the first one was used and it was blue and the title called it a 1969??? But then, when I think about it, back then it might have been anything, Jap motorcycle titles were all over with all of the crashed ones....?? I'm just sayin.... It has been a long time ago too :nixweiss:
Yeah I test road a 750, crashed it in front of the M/C shop......  :-\
I also remember how poorly they stopped and how poorly they went around corners... Stop light racing was always stupid fun. I am so lucky that I am still here....

If you have a link like above, you can add [IMG) (/IMG]http://tags around it to show inline.  Use ] in place of where I put ).  Also on an IPad from time to time and never realized that either.

Thanks for the tip!!
I wonder why the that choose file button is dimmed when on IPAD?

Nice bikes, lots of old memories. Went downstairs and took a pic of mine. 1972 250 Hustler---24,000 miles--all mine. Bought it new.  Thinking of selling it though.

1970 XLH that I bought new, my first Harley.
cost.....$1820.00 out the door!

I still have it and it has 3200 miles on it. This was after I put it back to stock 3 years ago.
It was stock, than a chopper with springer front end, paint, chrome. Could not keep up with any of the four's so I made it a 77 C-I with 12:1 comp, webber carb ect ect.
Next in the mid 70's I turned it into a cafe racer with morris mags, road race front end, gas tank and seat. Than it sat for 31 years, found all the stock parts, and put it back to stock looks the same as the day I bought it.......but it still has the 77 C-I motor in it.

Starts easy with the elect start......as long as the battery is full up! with that motor, it turns over about 1.5 times and fires.

This was the "parts bike" I bought off E-bay to get all the stock parts back. only thing I did not use was the motor and frame, but needed all the rest.
this one had been dead in a shop for the last 30 years he said, found it in New York state,,,,,cost, $875.00.

In 1970 electric start was an option and, after two "Sportster Knees" , an option I wish I had then. Great looking bike.  Doc

You are so correct! road with many that had the XLCH and some times they would kick and kick and than "will than you try", kick, kick kick.....you know what....lets just push it and "bump" start it, 2ed gear, worked all the time!

How we were "dum and young" back than! No fear!

glad you liked it.

Had many a jambed knee from that ratchet slipping. My son has to start it the first time for me now and he uses his dirt bikes boots with shin guards to do it. After that its a one kicker. I have to congratulate you again a great restoration...sweet bike.  Doc

This is a picture of me as a senior in high school and my Bridgestone 175 Dual Twin Motorcycle.

I know it's hard to see, but I have a Bridgestone tee shirt on under my dad's deer skin hunting jacket.

We were a Bridgestone dealer in the '60s and this was my first bike, other than mini bikes I had built myself a few years earlier.  Those Bridgestones were very fast for their size.  All of the Bridgestones were rotary valve induction which gave them an advantage over the some of the other two strokes on the market, all except for the larger Kawasaki twins which were also rotary valve induction.  It was a great time to ride bikes.  I do miss this one a lot.

I've noticed alot of 3 cyl. Kaws as first bikes.  Heres a story about my friend Randy's 750 H2.

He pulled the motor and sent it to Yoshimura racing and told Pops to build the baddest street engine humanely possible, no expense, and anything goes.

The engine came back with carbs turned and expansion chambers.  That bike was so loud you couldn't stand to be within 30 feet of it.  It would wheelie at 100 miles an hour, and continuely broke the frame.  When "cruising", it got 7 miles to the gallon, and 3 miles to the gallon when ridden hard.  Oh for the good ole bikes.

The Kaw triples were great bikes! Tempermental but real screamers! I can still hear that sound only a 2 stroke triple can make.

My first was a Cyclops Mini-Bike. Got it for Christmas in 1968. Thought I was the chit until my friend got a Fox for his birthday, it had fenders and everything! Soon traded up to a Honda Elsinore, then a Penton - started the enduro races at 15 and stayed with it off and on for 15 more years. Bought my first street bike, a Triumph Bonneville, while I was in college at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA. Rode it to Panama City, FL on spring break in 1977 and put a "For Sale" sign on it so I could buy a bus ticket home - what a piece of crap that was. Never sold it so I had to ride it home. A lot of bikes have come and gone since then but I have always had one or three. Most of my old photos were lost in a house fire but the memories are still vivid. Now I am glad to be in this group of elite bitchers, I think most of us deserve what we have!

This was my second bike 1969 350 Yamaha.(picture taken in 1971) I sold it to my friend who shortly there after got hit by a car, broke his leg and collected medical costs, plus 14K insurance settlement. My first was a 67 350 which I only kept for a month because of a ticket for reckless driving. There have been countless Hondas and Yamahas which I used to buy as basket cases and turn over for cash while going to college.CAHDBIKER

Not my first.....not even close.  Started on a mini bike, then a Tote Goat, Hodaka, blah, blah, blah.....don't even think I could remember them all when I was a kid.

This is a Pan/Shovel on a Harmon frame with a Harmon front end from the early 70s.

That looks like one of my old bikes. This is not my first either, that was a Yamaha RD350

In 1970 electric start was an option and, after two "Sportster Knees" , an option I wish I had then. Great looking bike.  Doc

I have a Sportster knee so I feel the pain, my XLCH would just not grab the starter gear every once in a while, hyper-extend the knee. It ended up sending me to the hospital when the torn meniscus folded over locking my knee at a 30 degree angle. This is a pick of the bike and my second Harley but first V-Twin! Yes the frame was chromed! I think it was a 71 motor on a 69 frame if memory serves me correctly.

When I went to the hospital a couple of guys tried to straighten out my leg to put a brace on it...I passed out. Turned out to be a "bucket handle tear" like yours and it was off to surgery a few days later. Ya got to love those sporties.  Doc

Not my bike, wife and I can't find any pictures.
It was a 1982 Honda cr 80, and I was 12. (Got it used off a friend).
Had a lot of fun on it, and of course wrecked many many times.
I have a bad right knee because of one of those many falls. Ha, who would of known.
Wouldn't trade those times for anything.
Looking at all these pics has brought back so many good old memories.
