Power Commander vs. SERT for stock 2003 Screaming Eagle Deuce?
« on: September 29, 2011, 07:14:32 PM »

Anybody have experience with both applied to a stock SE Deuce? Is there really a big advantage with the SERT over the Power Commander?

No, there isn't...

The big advantage has more to do with the tuner than with the tuning device...

The person tuning is important as they will typically do a better job with a device that they are familiar with. There is a disadvantage the the power commander (or any add on device) and that is that they can fail, although rare. Another disadvantance to the power commander is that is disables the ion sensing of the Delphi ECM.

When you say it disables the ion sensor this meaning if the delphi ECM is new enough to be hooked up through the exhaust O2 sensors which the 2003 SE Deuce does not have

No.  The ion sensing system works through the coil, plugs and wires to sense detonation.   Has nothing to do with AFR measurement done through oxygen sensors.

I can speak to this a little. I bought this same bike and it came with a tune and a Race Tuner. Well a couple of years later I wanted to get it dyno tuned and the tuner had all of his experience with the PC series. He installed a PCIII and then did the tune.
Now I expected it would change the bike some for the better, as I have gone from ShortShots to a Bub7 2/1 and stage 1. When I picked it up I found out that he had decreased fuel in many areas. Well maybe it was better, but I found it to be slower, although my fuel economy improved considerably... I have since unpluged and removed it and everything is back to normal. It lasted about 2 weeks before I couldn't stand the performance cut......
The PCIII does the job as advertised, and the SE Race Tuner is really the option I like best but that is cause of the guy that tunes my stuff, he speaks Harley SEST..
Now I have two SESTs and plan on staying with them, and I have a PCIII, w/usb port that is forsale, all offers considered!
