Can you imagine all those miles?  I wish I could............. downsize ......... big time.  Make the plans, book the trips and travel by motorcycle.  Sounds like fun.   ;)

2 YEARS AGO WHILE UP NEAR FIREDOODS STOMPING GROUNDS WE WERE RIDING ON THE SHENENDOAH PARKWAY AND WE STOP AT A REST AREA FOR A BREAK AND I MET THIS GUY FROM GERMANY DOING A WORLD TOUR ON A SUZUKI DAKAR. HE HAD A BIG ALUMINUM BOX MOUTED ON THE BACK WITH ALL HIS GEAR IN IT. SPARE PARTS, FOOD, YOU NAME IT HE HAD IT.AT THE TIME HE WAS PREPARING HIS LUNCH, HAD A HOT DOG WRAPPED IN FOIL WIRED ON THE EXHAUST NEAR THE HEAD. HE WAS TO COMPLETE HIS TOUR BY OCT 06. WONDER IF HE DID. I WAS QUITE IMPRESSED WITH WITH THE WHOLE DEAL AT THE TIME. HARD TO IMAGINE GOING AOURD THE WORLD ON A "DIRT BIKE" EATING HOT DOGS. MANY TIRE CHANGES, BRAKE JOBS AND MAINTENCE TO GO WITH IT. :)

You'd not think the periscope was nearly as funny if you were the guy sitting on the raft in the surf that it rear ended  :o .

I saw complete TV series about Ewan McGregor and his friend doing Europe, Russia and States on BMW Moto.  The model they used was GS (Off-road, on-road) bike similar to Dakar.  I do not think HD will make it through Mongolia and Eastern Russia.  There are literally no roads.

some places are really awesome.  Mongolia for example.  Russian part of the trip is great in Altai - middle of Russian mountaines.

I recomend this DVD to everyone interested in long term trips on a bike (like around the world).  The first couple of chapter tell how they did the planning etc. Very interesting.  Its called "Long Way Round"
