King tour pack with the chopped back rest or a custom backrest has anybody done it and if you have do you have pictures I appreciate that thank you do not want a back rest with the arm pads on a newer style king pack 14 and up

I did. Because i didn't like the big armrestst and the gap where the speakers should be. It fits nut you only have to drill two extra holes in the lid. You keep two smal holes on each side of the lid. Will post a picture soon

Corbin makes a number of options for tour pack backrests that do not have the arms on them......(click on this link and then scroll through the various pics) http://corbin.com/accessories/tourpak.shtml
I also had my 10 CVO Street Glide set up for two up position with the longer arms..... http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=40248.msg642302#msg642302
As well as the solo position with no arms......and this may well be what you're looking for. The pad that is attached to the tour pack, I took it to an alterations shop and had a thicker piece of closed cell foam put in it (wanted firmer, lower back support in the solo position) and that was only a few bucks.... http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=40248.msg670869#msg670869
In the solo position photos you will notice two holes on either side of the backrest. Those are for the backrest with the arms and had I not switched back and forth, I'd have got a couple of hole plugs and had them painted to match or even a couple of acorn nuts would plug the holes but I didn't want to mar the paint around the holes.
I hope these pics and part numbers help.
EDIT: And a few pics of it mounted on the bike in the solo position..... http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=40248.msg676278#msg676278

thought I would share a pic on my king tour pack with a chopped tour pack back rest. you have to drill your own holes . and I used Chrome plugs to cover the existing holes. this is an option for somebody that does not want the full-size king back rest on a king pac

I pulled the lower flap off the backrest. I think it looks a lot neater without it.
