Curved license plate bracket
« on: January 10, 2017, 08:59:36 PM »

As I'm sure most of your are aware the curved license plate bracket from a standard SG will not fit a CVO and MC does not offer one. My wife was not a fan of the stock bracket (it is her bike). As I am fortunate enough to have dealer with an ace mechanic who is able to customize some items I asked him to take a look at the curved bracket and see if he could make it work, I stopped by a few days later and vuala! I think he did an awesome job and no he did not touch the fender.

i'd be willing to bet it would not take that much effort to make it work but I was just showing you a different option

I like the looks of the bracket but you do not say what brand and model it is, or where you got it?

Your tech can remove the stock OEM pig nose license plate light (if you do it while it's new, there will not be any marks on the paint) and replace it with a Kuryakyn license plate frame with the integrated LED license place light.  Remove the license plate light and the plastic between the light and the fender and you have beautiful paint.   NOTE: no repaint or other body work needed....just a coat of wax.  See it here....   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=40248.msg620128#msg620128

Check out the kuryakyn curved license plate frames.  Willing to be you can find one that'll fit.  I'm not all that impressed with their products, but they do work (most of the time).

I think it looks great!  Thinking of doing the same thing.  Do yo know if he used the backing plate that came with it or did he just attach the top frame to the stock plastic backing plate?

I'm not exactly sure as the bike is still not home, what I do know is that he cut the existing plastic bracket from just below that existing light. Hope that helps, but can some better pics once we get the bike delivered.

Dan I just enlarged your picture to get a better look at the license plate frame.  I am pretty sure that it's the same frame (Kuryakn) in the photo that I posted a picture of in the link I provided in my post above.  If it is, then it has built in to the frame tiny LED lights so he could have removed the stock OEM license plate light and the plastic liner that goes between the license plate light and the fender.

Switch to the Kuryakyn with the built in light and get rid of that big pig nose license plate light.  Sure cleans up that rear end.  :2vrolijk_21:

I put one of these curved set ups on my RG. SG used to be the same bike neck back, not sure about that anymore but in any case - the write up is in this thread -
