do you really need to get new gaskets when you reinstall the headers and crossover?

I changed them, the 2 to the motor and the 1 for the xover. Also I replace the compression rings for the O2 sensor

Please pardon my ignorance, but why did you go this route?  I was under the impression you could just put a header pipe from a 09 on there instead of removing the cat.  I must be wrong?  Thanks for any explanation.

If I remember correctly the placement of the O2 bungs has changed in the '10 from where they were in '09. If you wanted to stay "stealth" (keep the OEM look) then it would (IMO) be better to do what this member has.

OK, thanks.  What is the cost difference between the two?  What is the downtime for cat removal from fullsac.  Is the company called "fullsac"?  Interesting name if it is.

I think it would be best to have the OEM header ( w/cat ) ready to reinstall when the gov. starts testing and checks that the cat is there.

Agreed, I'm asking my dealer for a "throw-away" where they have replaced pipes to tru-duals - if they are still doing that with the cats as I don't think it's even legal.  I may have to spend the money on either the Jackpot or Fullsac headers.

How will that be done?

California just shot down a bill that was introduced, for motorcycle smog checks.  It was going to be a visual inspection to ensure that the mufflers were stamped with the EPA stamp and the baffles were in them.

Unlike a four wheeled vehicle, I'm not sure how they'd be able to look at it and determine if the cat is in it. :nixweiss:

I'll use a map with TTS thats close. And maybe play with it a little.
Then I'll get it dynoed in a few weeks. No cams till next year. I still have a need
to get the tour pak first.

I will keep an eye out to pick up a stock set. If I have motor problems before that I'll be looking to beg, or borrow one to take it to the dealer.

I'm not real worried about that.

In this town we have illegal "immigrants" driving cars that cannot pass smog checks,  without licenses, insurance, registration.
If they catch me without a "cat"........well..........guess I'll become "illegal"!

Sometimes that's the problem...they will come down harder on you for the lesser offense--typical government thinking. Still....I'm not worried about it either :2vrolijk_21:

Welcome to California........are the other states going this direction as well?

2009 Harleys did not have cats for the other 49 states, Cal did!
2010 Harleys ALL have cats for all 50 states.
Do you see a trend here??

Yep, welcome to the 21st century.

I think it is.  If that bill had passed, they weren't going to implement it for two more years.  But we're damn glad it got easily defeated.  We all know that Calif. will be the first state to have smog laws for motorcycles (whenever it happens).....I don't think anybody will argue that.

CARB (Calif. Air Resources Board) has much more stringent laws than the EPA does.  Hell, the EPA is just now catching up to laws that CARB have had in effect for five years.

If any of you are truely worried about what the Gov. will do in relationship with your motorcycle and EPA regs., then I'd suggest you don't own a CVO or even a Harley at all. play it safe, get a BMW or something similiar, stay on the couch.
I don't really mean this but if you are concerned then you'll not get the whole CVO experiance.
Cut the head pipe, chitcan the cat and move on. when we started doing this to the pipes there were no Catless pipes available, so cut, chisel, and weld was the only option

Yea, but they told me you have to take a snow shovel.  I told em they don't sell snow shovels in Cali. but there are plenty of places to buy a surf board. :huepfenlol2:

The price we pay to play here in Cali. :nixweiss:

With Californias current budget crisis they need to immediately make some cuts!!!

Perhaps completely eliminating the CARB board is a good first step :nixweiss:

Yeah, but they will appoint a committee to study that proposal and ask us taxpayers to pony up the money to see what the viable alternative would be to keep even MORE government employees on the payroll.
Eliminate one government office, and you create two to take it's place!
Our deficit is not deep enough yet, we're on track to surpass the National debt!
Does government ever change?? Nope.
Don't get me started!! LOL

Been there, done that!
It's easier (for me, at least) to just cut the collector apart, remove the material, and weld back up. The locations of the sensors need to be in a specific area of the collector casting.
