2018 Pricing and Dealer Markup
« on: October 05, 2017, 06:28:43 PM »

Old Glory HD in Laurel MD has a 2018 CVO Street Glide For Sale (Orange/ Black Denim).

They are selling it at MSRP Plus $2,000.00. I asked what they added to the bike, and Mr. T said nothing. The colors are very limited this year, and they are only getting one of each.

$41,949+ tax, fees, etc.

I will never give them (dealers who markup) one penny of my business.

“Stealership”.

 Buyer Beware!

They always try to get over MSRP. I tried to buy a 2015 CVO from them. They tried the same stuff with me. I went to Romells and bought it for MSRP. They called me the next day and said OK MSRP...I told them no thanks I bought one already.

We were in Pensacola, FL this past Saturday  and the dealer had both a CVO Street Glide and a CVO Road Glide.
Both were in the Gray color.  I asked how much for each and the sales guy says,  DSRP,  and I said,  and what is that?
$50k for the RG,  and $48k for the SG!, but we're giving you Zero interest!  He said that with a straight face too!
Oh yeah,  that's plus dealer prep and shipping!

I guess we must live on different planets.

Just know there are dealers that will sell them at MSRP.  I know people who have already picked up there 18 CVO Street glides for MSRP.  I got my 18 CVO Road glide for MSRP.

It pays to shop.  Must be why those bikes are on the floor, over MSRP.  Dealers selling them at MSRP, don't have them on the floor.

New bike allotments are based on prior sales history.

Perhaps, if they would rethink their pricing policy they would sell more bike thus get more inventory.

When we bought our 15 CVO we also planned to trade our 09 CVO towards it.  We stopped in at Old Glory and got their price while explaining we were also going to another dealer for their price.  So we advised them to show their "best and final" offer.  When we went to Dealer #2 we also told them we were shopping 2 dealers.  They beat the Old Glory deal by over $2000.  Obviously we purchased from Dealer #2.  We were back at Old Glory a couple weeks later and the salesman asked what we had done.  We explained, and he had the nerve to ask why we hadn't returned for a counter offer.  What part of "best and final" was not clear?

We love our 15 and are happy with the very fair deal we got.

That is very true.

The CVO Limited Anniversary bike, each dealer only gets one off.  But that is the only bike not based on past history of sales.

Paying MSRP or Over MSRP went out the window after 2003 !! In 2004 bikes were available every where so let the dealing begin since 2004  I never purchased a bike @ MSRP or Over MSRP.

Dealers in NC are price gouging on the CVO models, even ones that were “ always MSRP” are even joining the club..even tilley’s which never did before is now doing it. How sad.

When sales continue to drop I guess the dealers think charging more is the answer. Never seen a business improve the bottom line by charging more.

Late 1980s I worked for a company that did just that. Big sales decline, so they raised prices to maintain profits.  It worked, if you consider losing over 50% of their then current sales and closing a plant & dropping about 50% of the products they offered. Today that company is no more - just a small niche branded label component of a large conglomerate.

Follow-up:

Old Glory still has the ‘18 CVO Street Glide in Orange/Black for sale at $2k over MSRP; however, they are tossing in the first service (gotta laugh).

They are also willing to accept a trade/ ‘17 CVO SG—$30k offer. They have a red/Black ‘17 CVO used for sale for $36K+.

I was able to test ride the ‘18 CVO—I noticed little difference in performance. The sound is better/louder, and it comes w/heated grips. Is moving from a ‘17 to an ‘18 worth $10k plus (based on $30K trade)? Absolutely not in my opinion. Factor in the dealer markup and it would be $12k+.

Is the bump in price from a ‘17 to an ‘18 justified?

Pros: Heated grips and upgraded sound (note: I met someone with an ‘18 CVO RG-he has already blown a speaker 3 weeks in-stated he hates the boom and is getting a new system).

Cons: Depends on your viewpoint—paint and 117 vs ‘17 paint/114.

Does the 114 liquid cooled and ‘17 paint cost more  than the ‘18 paint/117? Based on the forum—many are saying that Harley saved money using the 117 engine/paint vs previous year.

I think Harley made the right decision w/heated grips. As for the sound system, I blew out multiple speakers on my ‘15 CVO, and had an issue w/saddlebag speaker on my ‘17. I do like playing my music loud, but blowing out speakers after the warranty ends can get costly.
