Saw this thread and thought of this tool.  Someone gave me one of these for Christmas a year or three ago.  Just a handy socket for clutch adjustment.  No huge deal or anything.  Just a little extra convenience.

Way too many specialty tools aren't all that special at all.  That one actually adds a small bit of ease or convenience to what is still a pretty simple little task.  But hey, do we really need an excuse to buy tools :nixweiss: ?

Sometimes it's even more fun to modify tools.  Makes them 'special'.  I used a torch on the handle of a 11/16" box wrench. :o ::)

Hey, it worked.

That's always fun.  Between the plasma cutter, mig/tig, oxy, a press and a BFH making tools is sometimes more fun than the thing they're needed for :bananarock: :huepfenlol2:.

Hey, Blaine!  Do you have the clutch cover?  The ribbed clutch cover, or transmission side cover (whatever you wanna call it), is discontinued. :o  Your dealer will probably have to do a search to locate one.  You might want to get that ball rolling sooner rather than later in order to have the best shot at getting the OEM piece.  Otherwise, you have to settle for the smooth cover like what the TCs come with. :-\

Hey Brian...I have the ribbed what is I think called the Clutch Cover Assy. It is the ribbed cover where the clutch cable goes into the clutch housing. I have it already; bought it off ebay. The dealer here did not have it; said they would do a search but I told them to hold off and I found one on ebay; not OEM on ebay but an aftermarket that looks just like OEM....Thanks Brian  :2vrolijk_21:

Good deal!  The chrome on mine was bubbling when I got it, so I had mine replaced along with some other work I had done at the dealer.  I did not find out until I went to pick the bike up that they had to hunt down a ribbed one from another dealer due to it being discontinued.  I was glad they knew I was wanting to keep it as original as possible.  I woulda freaked if I went to pick it up and it had a smooth one on it. :o

I kept the original one that was on the bike.  I'll have it re-chromed in case I ever need it again.  Funny how these older parts are starting to get scarce!

1. Loosen the clutch CABLE jam nut and using the adjuster, remove ALL slack (zero clearance between the clutch cable ferrule and the clutch lever bracket) in the cable.

This would seem to go against the hd manual...it says to have lots of slack?????????

That's step 1.  Do the rest of the steps, at step 5, you put the play back in the cable.
