New FXR3 Owner
« on: July 16, 2005, 09:41:50 PM »

Hello, just thought I would introduce myself.  I just purchased a 99 FXR3 with 1120 miles on it.   Since it is my first Harley, I am very excited to get on it and ride.  If you are ever in Lees Summit Missouri, dont forget to stop by Hawg Wylde, they are great folks and take care of you!
Thanks,
Jim
PS
I will send pics as soon as I get it home on Thursday. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Jim, welcome to the site!  That FXR3 of your sounds like a real find!  Since somebody saved it so nice for ya and stuff, be sure to thank 'em by getting out and rolling some miles on that sweet machine! [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Welcome aboard.  Keep an eye out and you'll notice a couple of guys also from Kansas City that are occasional participants here.  If I remember correctly one is an SEEG guy and one has a gold Road King.  But you've got company.  I'm down state in Joplin.

I know.  I am picking the machine up on Thursday.  Kinda of a shame that I dont have an endorsment yet.  Its been awhile since I have had one.  I guess I am going through my midlife early!  Nice to see more MO riders here.  Be careful and drive safe!

Hey, don't feel too bad.  If you've still got the test to do I'd much rather be doing it on your bike than a big Glide.  Heck, I'd borrow the smallest thing I didn't feel scrunched up on to take the test.

The written part is a no-brainer of course.  But some Nazi-inspired comedian dictated the patterns for the cones and the instructions for going through them that is the driving part of the test.  About six or seven years ago I had to retake mine (don't remember why now).  Passed the silly thing.  But was so pissed off by the time it was done I could've chewed tire.

If the driving test is anything like the one here in Indiana (set up by sadists who enjoy watching guys dump brand new bikes), I would suggest what I saw several other folks doing:  go out and rent a small dirt bike that you can throw around easily.  When I moved to Indiana and had to take the test (30 years experience doesn't count for anything), I watched a young guy with a brand new Triumph bagger dump his and do at least a thousand dollars worth of damage.  I almost cried for him.

Welcome to the site.  You've found a fantastic bike (best handling Harley probably ever), and I hope you enjoy it even half as much as I would.

Sounds like a lot of these courses are the same.  The State of Illinois would not transfer my endorsement from NC to IL when I moved back here about 5 years ago.  I practiced on the course outside the Secretary of State's office 100 times if I did it once, but could never do the cone weave or the u-turn on my Kawasaki Concours.  Bike was too top-heavy at low speed and didn't have a decent  turning radius.  A few months later when I decided I wanted my first Harley, the dealer here actually met me at the driver's license facility with a new Buell Blast!.  I passed on it easily even though it was the first time I'd ridden one of those bikes.

Later, I found out they should have transferred it back the same way my IL motorcyle endorsement transferred to NC with no problem. [smiley=dunce2.gif]

ABNRDO,

Yes indeed, welcome to the site. I hope you get a little more out of the bike than the last owner. So, tell us a bit about the bike. Totally stock? What mods? What are you gonna do with this gem?

          Hope To Hear,

You may want to set this up in the buy/sell section, you tagged a post that was from months ago so it is kinda dead.  Here's the link:
