What Are These Holes For???
« on: October 15, 2008, 04:46:45 PM »

I was going over the bike and noticed these 2 unused (at least now) holes on the inside of the inner primary. The have unpowdercoated bosses where it looks like something was previously mounted. They're located on the upper rear area of the IP (behind clutch). Nothing is in the Parts Manual shown mounted to the IP. Can anyone identify these 2 holes? Thanks! :confused5: :nixweiss:

These are the best pics I could get. ;)

If it makes you feel any better I have the same exact holes on my 2, and don't know what they're for.  Threaded and all.  And nothing has ever been there since I've had it, anyway.

I don't know what it is used for but the lug on that battery lead sure look questionable. Looks like it was crimped with a hammer.

I think you may have stumbled onto the true fix for the leaking head gasket problem.

The MOCO is in the process of building a oil collection attachment that will be used to catch the oil from the head gaskets.  It will be a flat shaped funnel with an oil line attached to the bottome.  The oil line will be routed to the hole you have identified.  The hole will be drilled drilled out according to Service Bulletin titled "Nothing else works so why not try this and declare this Green Technology by Harley"

Even though they're just the bolt holes, could the holes be holdovers from the earlier IP's, where the starter solenoid used to be mounted? :confused5:

This subject sounded so familiar to me, I went back and looked.  I'd asked if all bolt holes need bolts back in April of '05, and was told then that they were used for alignment.
