The split "collets" behind the exhaust clamping ring.
« on: September 08, 2019, 01:46:08 PM »

Is there a knack in getting the thin spring steel ring over the belled out end of the headers. Finding very difficult to open them out enough to passover the end.

I usually just hold one end then pull the other end just enough to clear the bell, then sort of walk it around and off.

I usually use a small screw driver and work it off and work it back on the same way.

Use reverse pliers, like snap ring pliers.

I used 2 pairs of needle nosed pliers and easily worked them off, just did this 3 days ago when I installed my Jackpot headpipe.

Thanks a lot for your comments fella's. It was easy to get the old ones off, it's the new ones that are the problem. Just wondered if there was an easy way other than brute force. I will keep trying

Da d00d has your answer for both old and new.  I've got two pair of these with different size "heads" for different applications.  Makes it much easier to remove/install

Picture is similar to what I've got...

I usually treat like putting on a bicycle tire.  Push one tip dow past the flange and work it around. Does not spring it too much.
