Title: Removing Oil Filter
Post by: ..Hawk on March 16, 2010, 07:19:32 PM: Not having any luck getting the Oil Filter off. What tool is best? Not much room to work.

I'm thinking a Bazooka at close range. :'(

I prefer this filter tool for the stock MOCO filter...

Post by: tennisman on March 16, 2010, 09:42:44 PM: I found one like this at my dealer that fits best in the space that's crowded by the added oil cooler on the 110 engines. Works better than the clamp type.

The one with a Harley part number that sadunbar posted is my choice.

Guess that all depends on who is holding the wrench?? If it's me and I"m trying to work on the bike then I'm the nut. :D ;D :D ;D

Channellock (and no doubt others) actually make an oil filter plier that works pretty well. Relatively short handles and short throw with a wide (enough) toothed mouth. Other than an end-cap socket type tool it's what I'll always grab anymore if there's room from the side. Quick and easy.

Use a strap wrench and get it on real close to the engine or it will crush the filter. Back in the day, I would use an air chisel and walk it off.
