Looking for any and all comments regarding 2013/2014 problems with the 110 screaming eagle
Motor. I have a 2014 with 18K miles. In June it started stuttering. Brought to Smoky Mountain Harley in Maryville TN. Issue: lifters went and blew the engine. Harley spent 2.5 months to tell me they would not “good will” me and fix it. Small amount of research tells
Me Harley knew about the problem and did not recall the 2013 and 2014 bikes. Does anyone know if a class action has been started on the issue? Anyone experience this problem?

There was a class action on the 2007-08, I chose not to participate.

The introduction of the 110 motor in 2007 the compression started out at 10:1 (I could be off some), one of their solutions was to lower it to 9.2:1. I got all kinds of apologies from HD executives for the 110 motor. They did give an effort to fix my bike and got a few new motors in the two years I had it, the bike had tool marks of a 15 year old bike from being wrenched on.  :drink:

I did get a coffee table book for my troubles and huge financial loss, I’m told by our own retired HD executive that I owe them a fairing now, I relied on their word that they’d make it right and now they’re the victim, typical psychology to remove themselves from liability, I see that from the alpha male biker too.  :huepfenlol2:

The campaign was not to change the compression. The motors had two issues, oil leaking by the liners, root cause massive heat and defective parts. Other issue was heads were sticking rear exhaust valves because of heat again and the lack of oil control caused by the legacy Kline valve seals. The fix was new heads with improved (overpriced) seals. This was only on touring bikes. Nothing about the lifters then but in 2013 those were updated to the Screaming Eagle versions and somewhere along the path the first compensator that was junk right out of the gate was updated, 4 times now. The updated lifters were not an improvement and issues continued. Root cause in my opinion is a mismatch of valve springs and cam along with lifters that have poor heat treat on the rollers. The guys that tour with these CVOs, most know the drill and are replacing lifters often. Some get lucky and loose a lifter and get by with a partial fix, most require a full teardown and overhaul, sometimes new cases. It is ugly and all preventable but unfortunately not working with the dealer network unless they use aftermarket parts and have very sharp techs.

Roger that  :2vrolijk_21:

I guess I got off on my tangent as usual but I’m just expressing my experience on my 2007 110. I didn’t get enough miles on a set of lifters with the 2007 110 to experience failure there, my failures were elsewhere. Their campaign for the heads just covered the FLHTCUSE and no other models, the comp didn’t give mine any trouble either. The compression was dropped for some reason other than just because. I guess a class action could be had just on the lifter failure alone, then the ABS needs to be included also, I think I’ll stop there.

I showed HD by purchasing two new bikes since then, an 08 FLTR bastard year then my 09 which was the last new bike. I’ve had money burning a hole in my pocket for a new ride but an HD hasn’t been considered, I ended up dumping more than I care to admit in my 09 because it’s a keeper and I hope she is cobbled together well enough now, being a DIY'er I have gone through some learning experiences myself as I'm just a parts changer, but I can ride.  :orange:  :bananarock:

All good but the compression remains unchanged. ~9.3:1 with 96cc nominal heads even after the program heads are installed. The stock CVO 110 will crank 220-225 on a compression test, acrs off WOT.

Just to add to the crap. My 12 started making a racket a little over 20000 miles got they all do that.  I traded it in on a 14 lasted 52000 and chit a lifter trashed about everything but the cases. So there you go.
