Newbie with a Questions about the 07-09 FXSTSSE
« on: September 14, 2010, 04:07:50 PM »

First of all this will be my very first Harley! so I know NOTHING!!

Few weeks ago I fell feet first for a 2007 Tribal blue FXSTSSE that I seen at a local shop, than I saw photos of the 09 FXSTSE Black w/ Diamond Ice and I had to change my shorts! Upon seeing the 09 in the flesh didn't really care for the metal flake in the black paint, In the photos the flake was unpronounced, needless to say the 09 doesn't grab me anymore like the 07 tribal.

My question is this? If I buy the 07 Can I put the 09 front and rear wheels on the bike? If so what's envolved and how many thousandths?? I think I would enjoy the bike alot more with more meat on the street....

Let me know? Maybe be pulling the trigger on a bike soon, prices are pretty fair.

Thanks

I like your taste in bikes, I too have a Blue 07.............

The overall classic look of the 07 comes from the skinny 21" front wheel, sorry I cant answer your main question from a professional view but as a layman, my answer would be no you cant at a reasonable price if at all,

to start with the bikes have a different frame, the 09 rear wheel would be much wider than the original 07,  240 tyre compared to a 200, so you are looking at wider fenders, rear swing arm, drive belt relocation/allignment etc etc,

on the front end if memory serves me correct the 09 front brake is on the opposite side to the 07, so again you would be looking at new fender, etc etc

buy it, ride it, enjoy it!

Even if you got all the other problems ironed out with the front wheel, the bike would not ride right due to the change of the rake and trail of the front fork.
The wheel is smaller on the '09 and would dramatically alter the ride height to the detriment of handling characteristics. Would probably wander all over the highway!
Go with the '07 and don't look back! You may find a better looking set of wheels later.
