Title: 2015 Burgundy Blaze - Ready to Amaze!
Post by: DesertHOG on October 08, 2014, 01:15:34 PM
So my business cellphone goes ablaze with a string of four text messages. They're from my salesman, Brad, at Duke City Harley (satellite store for Thunderbird Harley). My '15 Burgundy Blaze Typhoon Maroon FLTRUSE has landed in their shop, ready for assembly plus the immediate switchover from the HD Airshocks to the Bitubo 330mm HD004WME03 reb only, no resevoir.

The pictures are a little dark but she is so pretty.

Very purdy scooter, Simon.  Congrats on a great head turner and the color you had waited on.  Can't wait to see her in person sometime down the road.

Nope, learned my lesson on my last bike. I love the '11 graphics, everyone who sees them loves it. Didn't get me an extra dime when is came to trade-in value. This one stays factory paint, bags, rear fender .. nothing fancy.

Only upgrades planned are as follows:

1. Bitubo Shocks - must have decent shocks for a big guy like me
2. Fullsac DX, 1.75" Baffles with Screens, Super Tuner Dyno

3. Maybe a conversion to Solo Setup with Detachable TP ..  maybe

I am hoping that pulling the handlebar pin and moving the handlebar as far forward will work. If so, I won't need a handlebar change either.

Hope to get 1k on her in the next two weeks. Then 1k service. Then the boys at "LunchwithDave.org" have the "Bit Nippy 1000" planned for Nov 1st.

That should let her understand she is meant to be ridden.

Simon, your bike, you do as you please but what I bolded above tells me you have finally figured it out.
And to that effect, I say "Thank You, Thank You, Thank You"! Me and your checkbook are proud of you!

Looks good Simon.  You're going to love it.  As you know my bars are forward a lot.  I am running down to Daytona for biketoberfest.  That over 600 miles day should let me know it they will work for the long haul or not.  If not, it will be Yaffe Monkey bars, 14" on her like the 12 Skunk had and like my CVO king has.

Yaffe at this point only has the 10 and 12 monkey bars for the 2015 Road glides, they say taller are in development.

Yeah, I hope the stock bars work out. I like the look and feel of the Yaffe but if the stock work, I will keep them. I'm still considering that Solo conversion and will have to ponder it for a while. Need to find out if that much more comfort is gained by the solo rider in that position. I've run 95k miles between two RGs in the 2up and was always comfortable until the swamp crotch sets in, and the solo setup won't fix swamp crotch  ::)

Check out Vindikta bars. He has up to 18"s available. Very similar style, but 1.5" the whole bar.

Yeah right :-)

Looks pretty good for cell pics, still waiting to see one in sunlight.
Stopped at a dealer yesterday that was supposed to have a red one in inventory according to HD-net. but it was black and amber.

Post up some good outdoor pics!

I set it up solo on my two CVO road glides, both the custom style with chopped tour packs.  I did it that way because my wife rides her own, better weight distribution and for looks.  Odds are with my slim size I will be using the solo seat back rest, and not much of the king pack back rest.  We are very close in miles between our two road glides.  I put 42K on my 09 and 45,540 on my 12.

Optical illusion Duane ? They moved the bag guard lower down so the passenger leg can straddle more easily.

Do you see the "Harley Davidson" emblem shine like a rainbow, just like the CVO emblems when you can them in the right light?

They came standard on the CVO. I have to be that HD has them available for sale to those with the FLTRX and FLTRXS.

That's a Tank Bra and it was not standard. I pulled it from my '11 FLTRUSE and had the shop install it along with my Bitubos before I picked it up. I also had them install a 2nd battery tender cable so I can use a converter for my heated gear.

I looked back up but didn't see any info regarding new bars. I thought they looked like the standard pushed up until the last few pics.  :nixweiss: Details?

They are the standard bars, pin pulled, and moved up as far as possible without hitting the windshield. See my review on the '15 FLTRUSE for my views on the handlebars and then add your own review.

Got up early this Saturday and installed my second Fullsac 1.75" Power Core (I had installed one last week before I went on a biz trip). This one went much quicker than the first one. Only took me slightly more than an hour. Then I took my '15 FLTRUSE off to Duke City Harley to get a Dyno Tune. Mind you, I decided to keep the stock header and just open up the baffles. Right now I do not feel much, if any, heat coming off the header. So it will stay this way unless next summer proves to be too hot with the catalytic converter. If so, then a DX pipe will be installed.

Anyway, here are the results. I don't know how much is attributed to the tune using a richer air/fuel ratio and how much, if any, gets credited to the baffles.

Simon,

That looks pretty good for a head pipe with a cat.  Torque is only 1 foot pound less than mine with the Fullsac 2.25 baffles and DX head pipe, using the same SAE with 5 smoothing.

HP is where it looks like the DX head pipe helps, I have about 5.5~6 more HP.

When I get home from Vegas I will post my Sheet

it would be interesting to run the same dyno run with no cat in the stock head pipe...a dx pipe for a 6% horsepower gain from a pipe with a cat is worth the money, but...

I'm running the stock head pipe with cat removed, stock SE mufflers with plugs removed and a SERT on my '12 (which is a bit different than Simon's '15 with twin cooling and such) but got 95 HP peak at 4500RPM with a very smooth curve and 110 lbft of torque at 3800 RPM with it peaking around 2000 RPM.  Not too bad and I'm happy with it.
Simon already has a torque peak of 112 lbft so I'm thinking a decatted stock header or a DX pipe should really help with both hp and tq

Would I be correct in assuming that with a decatted header that the noise/sound level would increase fairly significantly?

Not as much as you would think, Simon.  I'm still running the stock mufflers, just have the plug removed so when you are "idling" down the road at 70 or so, it's not bad.  It is louder but I can still hear the radio quite well not even halfway loud and Vickie and I can hold a conversation at a without raising our voices.  Get on it or rev it at stop lights or on a faster than normal take off and you can tell it's more open sound wise and power wise.

I went with stock because I like doing stuff like that....looks stock but isn't.  If I had not been pleased with the results from this change, my next option was Fulsac.  You can tell it's not a stock header with the Fulsac but using the stock heat shields give it that stock look.

Not so sure on the Torque helping near as much as the HP.  Here is why I know 3 wet bikes tuned with the DX head pipe and Fullsac cores.  The Torque has all been 112.9, 113.6 and 113.8.

Doc told me before mine was ever tuned that the wet bikes with a Fullsac DX and Cores is usual 112~114 torque, with an occasional bike hitting 116.

HP has all been around 96.

So I got to see a red one this week, although only in a store. Played with the radio a bit. Sounds real good not running and inside the dealership. How is it on the road?

Well I have 2 issues and they are not necessarily fault of the radio/speaker/amp system.

1. My windscreen is too short, so I get a ton of wind noise in my helmet. When I get above 65mph, I pull the shield down and the noise increases.
2. The automatic volume control that is suppose to adj the volume doesn't work on it's own. So I am adjusting volume by hand. I need to learn to set up the AVC or, per some threads, the MoCo needs to fix it.

Overall, the sounds is great at speeds up to 65-75mph. Above 75mph all the wind noise drowns it out in my case. Once I get a new windscreen I believe this will be better.  Regarding the windscreen, the standard windscreen is 14" or there abouts and probably the top of it is around the top of my neck or at my chin. I need another 4 inches of height.

Simon

Three software updates for the radio and they sill do not have it fixed.  The AVC will work, if once you start the bike, you go to Setup, then to AVC, and turn it off then back on.  This has to be done each time you start the bike if you want it to work.

Also when do not Do this AVC is actually on in the muted mode.  So volume is limited a lot on the upper end unless you turn ACV off and then on each time you start the bike.

'Nuther one for you Simon. Since you just came form the 11 to the 15.
Does your BSR have an opinion on the 15's lack of lumbar adjustments?

Good choice, everything I ride mine I am more and more convinced this is the best riding bike I have ever owned. The others didn't come close to the sureness on the road and in the turns I get with this ride.

I also changed out the stock windshield for the HD 19" version and it makes a world of difference for me. The head buffeting and helmet noise are gone and I can hear the radio.

I figured out my issue with the Radio glares in the sun is likely my prescription transitions lens. They get dark when I am riding and I think they are affecting my view of the radio screen.

This will be the only Harley I wont have to change the handlebars or the windscreen. I am a little vertically challenged at 5'7" and find the bars are in the perfect position as is the windshield.
The radio glare is real, it is hard to see it when the sun is belting down on it, there wasn't this problem with my 2014 CVO Limited.
I first thought that there was the plastic protection still on the screen when I noticed the corners cut off the screen, the 2014 Limited didn't have the cut corners.
Not sure what the solution is for the glare other then a shroud which wouldn't look to good, but for now just lovin the bike!

Dave, it used to me planning bike trips, but now my wife is planning road trips all the time!
Spouses riding a good thing! She has the CVO softail Deluxe earmarked as her next ride.

Looking forward to seeing the paint job on your wifes 15 RGS.
