i've heard as high as $3.59 for the cheap stuff in MA
-
$3.14 IN Keokuk Ia about 5 miles from home. DelNel [smiley=nervous.gif]
-
Thing about it is that I bought gas on Monday for $2.59
and felt like I was getting scalped.
Today I was glad to get it for $3.00
[smiley=nixweiss.gif]
-
Just bought my first tank of 3 dollar regular gas
PHEWWWWWWWWWW $73.00 total
And I buy a tankful every other day.
Along with Katrina, the oil companies are kicking butt also!
Chip, I've been paying $3.20 - $3.25 gallon for diesel for over a month! $100 or more every other day in my truck......but gotta work.
Where are those scooters? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
.

And you guys were poo pooing the thread on gas mileage on our scoots not too long ago. Maybe it's time to do another one of those. My buddy just did a 95 inch rebuild on his twin-cam and is consistently getting over 50mpg. Nite-Al and I are both getting over 45mpg on '04 and '05 SEEGs. If a motor is tuned right it should still get good mileage performance regardless of whether or not it's a big motor. Someone said it takes something like 17 bhp to move a FL Harley at 60mph regardless of the size of the motor. Now that doesn't mean you can ride like Otis, Hubbard, and HD2003 and still realize the same mpg figures. Ride it like you stole it (the gas). [smiley=1syellow1.gif] Har! spyder

WOW JC!
Just went out at 5:30 this afternoon to get some.
Long lines at the pump.
Now it's $3.07
-
Me too, $2.99 for unleaded in the car today. It will only go higher from here, not down.
-
Saw something on Yahoo! today saying $4.00+ will be the order of the day sometime soon. The question is not if, but when. [smiley=nervous.gif]
-
Still $2.59 in my area of FL late this afternoon. Hard to imagine in a state where you get gouged on everything. Go figure.
-
Not only the pricing but the rage too...Long lines began today as several radio stations locally indicated several stations out of gas. Price - $3.09 Regular Unleaded, Police at several stations...
As for the rage, I was in line for gas when a truck attempted to pull ahead of me. Not seeing a post, I punched the gas on the car to not lose my place. The end result, a nice big dent in the rear quarter panel of my company car. Needless to say, I was pi$$ed.
This could be only the begining for a period of time. Just placed a locking gas cap on the 38 gallon truck parked out front of the home.
Of course with all these comments, it could be worst...I could still be living in N.O., LA and not having a home...Just I'm blessed, what about you?
-
This a.m. paid $2.69,this afternoon same station $3.29, ouch!!!! [smiley=nervous.gif]
-
$3.19 here in northwest Indiana, $3.69 in Chicago, and probably going to $4.00 real soon. Never dreamed I would have a $20.00 fill up on a motorcycle!
-

I heard on a talk radio program awhile ago that it'll be $4 per gallon by the end of summer.
I know technically end of summer is some date on the calender but for me and lots and lots of school kids the end of summer is the end of August.
Today damn it [smiley=furious.gif]

We cannot find gas for under $3.00 anywhere around us. It went up .70 cents over night. We are selling our Nissan Murano ----- which got pretty good gas mileage and are buying the new Hybrid by Lexus.
See the new gas gauge (http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=cvo_humor;action=display;num=1125575963) I had installed on my SEEG yesterday.
I hate to complain too much though, because we have a home and each other and can drive our vehicles. The folks in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi have lost everything. It is a horrible state of affairs there, I will gladly pay my $3.00 per gallon to not have to live with the devastation they are having to endure right now.
-
$3 per gallon for unleaded premium in south Florida as of yesterday.
I hate it, but if you believe in free market economies and supply and demand, then gas will, and should, continue to rise until more folks can't afford it, or otherwise don't buy it, than can. Only then, when sales fall off, and gas stations are sitting with no customers, will there be any reason to lower prices.
We just got word that our homeowner's insurance will be cancelled--we've had no claims--this is getting harder to find in Florida than gasoline, but similarly increasing in price.
BUT... At least we don't live in New Orleans. That place, as it was, may be just a memory.

How are folks reacting to not being able to effectively or easily insure their properties?
-
That's too bad Red. Another friend just sold his condo (had been a rental for 18 years) on Sanibel. He had insurance when it got nailed twice in a month last year but couldn't get anything cost effective anymore. Was easier to sell the property than mess with the hazards of Florida property ownership. Doesn't bode well for many factors of property ownership. Sorry you're having to fight the hassle.

Five Gal. of 114 Octane, "Blue Fuel", $25.23! If it goes to $8.00 a Gallon, like Desani, what are you gonna' do? I'll tell you what I'm gonna' do, I'll buy it! My wheels have got to ROLL! Later--HUBBARD

Just filled up my SEEG and it was over $15 and I only had 180 miles on the odometer. Never did I think I'd be paying $3.61 per gallon for non-racing gas at a Exxon station not even near a Interstate. I hate to think what they're charging on I-95 for a gallon of high-test gas right now. Also, the stations in my home county are all out of gas and saying it may be as long as two weeks before the tanker trucks arrive with more gas. Gonna have to 'hunker down' and save the gas for emergencies, I guess. Aaarrrrrggh! [smiley=furious.gif] spyder

Sounds like the people of Commerce need to maintain a long memory of these people and their gouging. No one need ever enter that station again until the little bastards are back home sewing buttons on counterfeit clothing.

Your response is not the most politically correct or sensitive answer, but I feel EXACTLY the same way.
If they don't like it "GO HOME" worship that COW!
Kinda like the two terroist having lunch in New York discussing plans for another attack on this country.
In a frenzy of excitement one starts speaking his native tongue and the other one stops him and say's,
"Stop that, We are in America now, speak Spanish!
It's really sad. Unless you are a bleeding heart liberal.

My 61 mile roundtrip commute while fun by bike will add up in the truck...I have been asked to join a future vanpool that would cut the commute in my vehicle down to 7 miles. I may even plan to ride the '86 Honda Rebel all winter to the commuter lot!

Well, how about this...just got home and the local owner of a number of C-stores, an American, has chosen to lower gas prices. As I left the C-store, he lowered his price from $3.19 to $3.05!!!

But let's be honest, isn't this is on the fine line between price gouging and entrepreneurship?

Good comments. No point me chiming in, it;s been pretty well covered. News media gets some blame in there as well for how they report the situation. Nothing like starting a panic in the name of free speech.
Was checking a local consumer gas website and was noticing the prices jumping this week. Had noticed as I filled the bike twice this week - first time Super was $2.89, second time it was $3.07.
I live about 60 miles from Austin and a local station near me last night was at #3.20 for SU. The one thing I did notice is all of the stations near me were out of regular unleaded. Not sure thow that is going to play for this weekend.

I filled up the bikes today.
I like that Cam ll 112 octane.
Has for the past year been $3.29 a gallon.
What a surprise [smiley=confused5.gif]
Now it's $4.59
Still beats the 76 race 100 octane gas for $5.99

grc, I hear you. Please don't take my somewhat brutally objective stance as one of approval. I'm just observing what's happening. I mostly think we got ourselves into this mess.
If I thought the Government could program-in a real transition to less oil dependency I'd be all for it, but unfortunately, as you allude to, the government itself is heavily influenced by powerful lobbyists for a powerful oil industry that has much to lose by folks wising up and not needing nearly so much of the stuff. And you're absolutely right about who will be disproportionately hurt.
Agree, again about the ME generation and greed. But I don't look for the Government to ever change that--it must come from the population, themselves. In order to gain entry into a government position of influence, one must be cut from the same cloth as those already there or they won't be invited to the party. So I would rather see the population in general, outside of government, realize that gas is a major expense and one that should be minimized. Change it from a daily necessity to an occasional use item.
A tall order, for sure, but I really think we, the people must find ways to cut back on our consumption if we ever hope to stop complaining about how expensive gas is. Then let the oil companies and the arab oil sheiks feel the pinch when their market dries up.
-
We travelled to Shatley Springs and Stations Inn today.
Those are two good stops off of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Good food also!
Met Otis and Hubbard there along with the Otis/Hubbard contingent for some fun riding and great company.
Was worried about getting gas.
Not a problem as long as your willing to pay $3.59 or 3.69 a gallon.
What a rip off of the American public.
Bet that somewhere hidden there will be reports that corporate gas company profits are up 50% or better.
Can't imagine why?
-
Just read under $2 by the end of the year.....

Did I mention?

I'd be skeered to death on these MA Highways if I only did 60!

Hey, Bill........don't ya'll have two lane roads to ride on up your way? On the 4 lanes down here it's the same deal, gotta ride 70 to 80 to stay alive. Don't enjoy doing all my riding that fast, can't rubber neck enough. You get to be a old fart biker, you gotta slow down enough to smell the honeysuckles! [smiley=gorgeous.gif] Har! spyder

Gas in Atlanta has started to drop from the Katrina madness , QT went from 3.19 to 2.85 for reg .. I doubt it will drop much lower as they have "conditioned " us.

Another cheerful thought:
Gas may hit $4 by year-end
Energy studies center says there is 'no solution in sight,' blames lack of refineries. Drivers expected to adapt
The Detroit News
10/05/05
by Alejandro Barbajosa / Bloomberg
(Copyright 2003)
U.S. motorists will pay $4 on average for a gallon of regular gasoline before the end of the year as hurricane-damaged refineries stay shut and imports from Europe wane, said Luis Giusti of the Center for Global Energy Studies.Hurricanes Katrina and Rita idled as much as 29 percent of U.S. refining capacity, cutting gasoline stockpiles to less than 23 days of consumption, close to the all-time low in 2003.Average pump prices reached a record $3.057 a gallon Sept. 2, the week Katrina struck, according to the AAA motorist organization.Pressure on gasoline prices is going to continue because there's no solution in sight to refining, said Giusti, a CGES board member. We're not even feeling it yet because imports from Europe moved immediately after the refineries were closed. That relief will pass.Katrina and Rita marked one of the most disruptive hurricane seasons for the U.S. oil industry, shutting output from the Gulf of Mexico for five days. About 18 percent of the nation's refining capacity remains closed.Katrina prompted the International Energy Agency to coordinate the release of emergency oil and fuel supplies for the first time in 15 years. The average price at the pump for regular gasoline is up 53 percent from a year ago and is close to an inflation-adjusted peak of $3.14 a gallon in 1981.U.S. Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman said the prospect of gasoline supply disruptions following damage to refineries along the Gulf Coast from the hurricanes is propping up pump prices. We're going to need very high gasoline prices because we will be in a critical situation until we manage to replenish supplies, said Francisco Blanch, a senior energy strategist at Merrill Lynch & Co. in London. I don't think demand is softening. U.S. consumers will be able to adapt to higher prices. Not all analysts agree.Peter Beutel, an energy consultant and president of Cameron Hanover Inc. in New Canaan, Conn., last week said the United States will sink into recession by mid-2006 because of fuel prices. We're going to see prices move lower, Beutel said. We've already hit this economy with a huge, huge shock, he said, predicting the economic blow will mean lower gasoline consumption.Demand for gasoline in the four weeks ended Sept. 23 was 2.8 percent below a year earlier. No new refineries have been built in the United States in almost three decades. Strains in refining capacity, exacerbated by hurricane damage, prompted President Bush to urge energy conservation to prevent fuel shortages. Bush on Tuesday said energy supplies are tight and that more refineries are needed.

Been over the $3.00 mark for quite awhile now.
Paid $3.35 a gallon for diesel yesterday.........about $120 to fill my truck.
-
Gas is gas. I'll cut back to Kraft dinner for meals before I'll stop riding or driving.
-
Gas is gas.
-
Jerry,
You are correct I think the biggest cost increase this winter will be for heating your home.
Gas for the bike and vehicle have been HIGH here in CA, forever (currently $3.29 for 91 octane). I really think the Big Oil Companies are trying to get the public to think if Gas is around $2.75 a gallon, it's a steal. Dang I remember gas for under a quarter, when I was a kid. When I was in High School my dad use to give me $10 a week in Free gas and I could ride/drive forever on my Super Glide and Camero.
-
Well, not sure what the increased cost of gas has to do with it, but today a analyst down-graded Harley Davidson common stock due to increase scooter inventory building up and other issues that didn't sound like too gooda outlook for the future of the bizness.
-
Our 98 octane Preium unleaded is $1.20 a litre down under ($4.50 a US gallon) $3.00 a gallon is cool don't know what you are worried about . It costs $22 to fill my fatboy tank.
-
Based upon my travels today, we just do not have a handle upon where to purchase gasoline...In Richland, GA, you would have expected a bigger gas line based upon the excellent price available here...

I have to use 91 octane, so I've been used to +++3.00/gallon >:(
currently pay $3.39 and I am 50 miles from very large refineries.
They really sock it to us in California. THE only thing we get cheaper out here is Avacado's [smiley=worthless.gif]!
Hope this winter is nice... [smiley=banana.gif]
Many years ago.. '99 I predicted "$5/gal by '05" not too far off. After seeing that the rest of the world has always been paying 2-3 times what we pay, I am surviving this gas issue. I get 37.5 steady m.p.g. in my baby; this at a "cruise" lock of 86 m.p.h.
If I gat down a lot, I still approach 135 miles on a tank... fill-up would be +/- 4.8 gals.
Cat food? H-m-m-m hadn't thought of that; too busy trying all those wonderful choices of dog food. [smiley=oops.gif]

I'm right there with you, on the fuel costs, Nasty Habit! Paid $3.32 for diesel yesterday.
By the way, I like the name of your boat. Sold a 32' OAL Sea Ray last year, called Private Dancer
