Nice report (if you're a stock holder).

And personally, I don't think we're too far off from another stock split. [smiley=laugh.gif]

LOL I think I remember asking that same question a number of years ago.  It's just the way stocks work.  They establish a fair value.  When that value escalates to a certain point (about double of the established value) then they split.  So if the stock cost you $60 and it splits, tomorrow you have two at a value of $30 each.  But they start moving back up in value in a relatively short period of time (weeks or months) until eventually, they reach the level where they split again.  I've been into HDI stocks since 1986 and I know they've split at least twice and may have been a third time.  My memory is bad on that.

The real money is in real estate, thow.  Buy a house in Calif. this year and it will appreciate 15 to 20% in one year.  So you put 5% ($15,000) down on a $300,000 rental home and it appreciates 20% this year, you will earn $60,000 equity in one year.  You'll not make that much off of $15,000 in stocks.

I bought 2050 shares in 98.

As of today I am up $72,488.00

In 98 I paid $22.00 each and have had one split

I have sold the option on 1000 four times now and have never "lost" any, I just collect $1,000 to $1,100 each time. Right now I have 1000 on the May $65.00.

Let there be no doubt, H-D has seen a respectable ROI (return on investment) in the past several years...

If you have been a stockholder during this time, you have earned income.

However the debate is the future...Like all stocks there are risks, however without more information there more be more given the interest in the custom market and many other positions.

Bottom Line - Caution, at this point...

Do not get me wrong, I will always be an owner of the bike, however a stock holder, well let's just say, that may be a question depending upon the go forward position of the company.

In my opinion, they have to address the younger potential owners at this point.

Of course, this is one man's opinion.

Take Harley Profits

Harley-Davidson (NYSE: HDI) recently reported its 19th consecutive year of record profit, with 2004 earnings up 17 percent to $890 million on sales of $5 billion. That's a lot of Hogs moving off the showroom floor, resulting in a market share of nearly a 50 percent for the company.

Harley bikes are often sold for more than the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP), though it is now possible to buy one at the MSRP. The company pumped out more than 317,000 bikes last year, and demand continues to be strong. Harley aims to sell 400,000 motorcycles yearly by 2007.

Part of the demand comes from a segment of Harley riders that has been gaining: women. Women made up 10 percent of Harley's sales in 2003. The Motorcycle Industry Council says women account for about 10 percent of all motorcycle sales nationwide.

Gross margins at Harley continue to climb, coming in at 38 percent of revenue vs. 36 percent last year. Operating margins also increased, up 21 percent from a year ago. While international sales were strong in the fourth quarter, they lagged domestic sales on an annual basis. The company plans to offer reduced prices on select European models in 2005.

With a price-to-earnings ratio near 20, Harley-Davidson's stock may not be a screaming bargain, but it is worth keeping an eye on, for buying opportunities.
