BOSTON (AP) -- The state police motorcycle unit has been disbanded in a cost-cutting move that troopers say could compromise public safety, a published report said Monday.

The 40 troopers were reassigned to cruisers across the state as of Jan. 23, several of the troopers told The Boston Globe....

Yep, I agree......those motorcycles were a key in providing public safety!

My question is when did they change "revenue generating source" to spell "public safety"??  Or, were they just having too much fun and didn't want to give them up?? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Yeah, it seemed odd to me...they could be playing a game with a popular program.  You know, where when you are asked to identify places to cut and you offer up the favorite of your financial sponsor as the best place to trim?

Don't know if or when they will sell...but a story

A friend of mine, a hartford, CT cop bought a Hartford Police Bike after the City sold them.  He actually followed the truck down to Mike's famous in Delaware and brought back 3.  They wouldn't sell directly to him and they didn't use a local dealer for some reason.  No lights but it still has the Horn/Siren.

The dealer in our area always has Police bikes for sale Road kings and Electra Glides that have 2 year warranty and have seen them with as little as 500mile on them at good prices.  Many are from an escort service in Seattle.

Hmmm...how then is it possible that in the past few weeks I've been pulled over by a bike statie..and just last week had one pass me in the Ted?

Seems the State Police still have a bike unit after all.

Reports of the MA. Sate Police disbanding their motorcycle unit have been greatly exaggerated.

Three full-dressed Staties were sitting on the Westbound side of the Ted Williams tunnel yesterday...aiming the speed guns at people going through the "Fast Lane" automated toll collector too quickly.

FYI... the Speed Limit's 15...how "fast" is that???

While other cities have gone to other models or discontinued HD as their provider, I am happy to report, Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA will be receiving over 30 new bikes this month.

As for their used ones, already sold to a private dealer.
